Der unglückselige Inspektor Lognon ist vor zwei Tagen verschwunden. Von Lognons dauerkränkelnder Frau erfährt Maigret, dass seitdem schon zwei Mal amerikanische Gangster in ihre Wohnung eingedrungen sind, ohne sich um die Anwesenheit der Hausherrin zu scheren.
