Story
High heels, movie deals, wagon wheels, shoes, reviews, having the blues, builders, babies, families and other calamities... Many think that Marian leads a glitzy life of limos, television, and showbiz parties - but she would argue that she spends the majority of her life writing alone, wearing her PJs, and eating bananas with a laptop on a pillow in front of her. Under the Duvet is a wide collection of her journalism and stories, all personal, closely observed, and painfully funny...

Story
The Spanish House is a mixture of designs, Georgian, Gothic and Moorish, as if whoever started it had simply got bored. It has long been known as an architectural folly to locals, and is now nearly derelict to boot. When its reclusive owner dies intestate, the Spanish House is left to his city-dwelling niece. For Isabel, recently widowed, the house is a potential lifeline - the only hope she has of providing for her two children without having to sell her most treasured possession.

Publisher's Summary
Lucy Sullivan is 26 and living it up (and occasionally down) in London.
Hers is a life of quiet, undisciplined desperation. But when she and three friends visit a psychic for a bit of fun and the woman's predictions start coming true, Lucy is horrified. For the fortune-teller insisted she'd soon be married - within the year, in fact. Not only does Lucy not have a boyfriend, but the chances of getting one are looking slim.
Between the bottles of wine, antidepressants and her addiction to self-help books, she's not quite ready to walk, or even stumble, down the aisle sober. Is Lucy's fate really written in the stars? Or will she finally take control of her own destiny?

I persevered….
Like others before me, I refused to quit…especially since a credit had been cashed in! I read this years ago and found it an easy read. The audio version was bit harder to take. Unfortunately the narrator wasn’t really my cup of tea, especially with male voices, which I couldn’t take seriously. The visuals I had when it was time for the guys to talk made me laugh out loud at what my imagination came up with.

This hasn’t aged particularly well
I am a MK fan but there are a few things that haven’t aged well in this book. Most notably the fat jokes/depression references. There were so many cringey moments in the first few chapters that I almost stopped listening. The majority of the characters are frustrating and mostly unlikeable but I still listened to the whole book and did enjoy parts of it.

Not Keys best work
I was disappointed with this very long and annoying story. The Australian voice was terrible and all the men sounded stupid. I couldn’t like Lucy enough to care if she got married or not. She was unbelievably immature. If you are a fan of Marrian Keys, don’t listen to this book.

Another delightful story
After pushing past the bad Aussie accent, I really enjoyed the story. It was funny, relatable, and had a great message, and as always had a happy ending. Definitely worth the listen.

bloody awful
I started out excited until I realized it was old 1997 book. Worse narration ever and the characters were awful and unlikeable. 17 hours I won't get back.
I hope her new book is better.

Very unlikeable characters
Marian Keyes is a great writer and has some wonderful turns of phrase with a lot of laugh out loud witty lines. She is however, also the queen of creating extremely unlikeable and annoying characters who are very difficult to feel anything for except repulsion and anger. The lead character in this book especially makes you just want to smack her in the head as she is so pathetically stupid and pitiful.

A bit obvious...
A fun read but the “moral of the story” and how things would end up we’re really obvious right from the start. The narration was distracting with bad accents and super bad “deep voice to indicate a man is talking”. Marian Keyes is always good for a laugh with a bit of a darker twist (usually involving depression and/or alcoholism) but this is not one of her best. Go straight to the later stuff.
