Story
Soil is the unlikely story of our most maligned resource as swashbuckling hero. A saga of bombs, ice ages and civilisations falling. Of ancient hunger, modern sicknesses and gastronomic delight. It features poison gas, climate collapse and a mind-blowing explanation of how rain is formed. For too long, we've not only neglected the land beneath us, we've squandered and debased it, by over-clearing, over-grazing and over-ploughing.

In her exciting new book, mythologist and psychologist Sharon Blackie explores these archetypes, presenting them in a way sure to appeal to contemporary women. Drawing inspiration from these examples, women can reclaim midlife as a liberating, alchemical moment rich with possibility and their elder years as a path to dynamic power.

Get a First Nations Perspective on Travelling Oz
I really enjoyed this, I've listened to Deep Time Dreaming and Dark Emu recently and wanted to get a perspective that filtered out our strongly white anglo-saxon bias. Although some overlap I really enjoyed the themes shared with Dark Emu. Also I find both Vicki and Bruce write very poetic prose which made it rich and for me delightful.
I particularly enjoyed the early descriptions of travel up the east coast and interpreting the cultural landscape. Also I got a great sense of the commonality of certain stories common across Australia such as the whale stories that seemed to reflect deep time.

A great read - educational, inspiring & a little sad
What an awesome way to share stories about the First Nations people of Australia, and their willingness to share thousands of years of culture and knowledge with us.
Their appreciation and care for the land - their integrity and spiritual connection to living in harmony with nature just gives me goosebumps.
I look forward travelling to some of these places, getting up close & personal appreciating what is around us. Happy NAIDOC week Bruce & Vicky this is a fantastic book.

Incredibly interesting yet deeply disturbing as to the arrogance and cruelty of our forefathers. The book inspires hope but it’s questionable as to whether we have the capacity or courage to change.

An Amazing book, but…
This is an amazing book with so much detail and insight. However I think it’s the kind of book where you need to visually pour over it. I did not feel I was able to enjoy its true beauty as an audio book. I recommend buying the physical copy.
