Story
Librarian Phoebe Cotton lives with misophonia. The sound of other people crunching an apple, slurping their tea or snapping chewing gum fills her with a rage that she buries deep within. Mortified by her 'Not Quite Right' brain, she hides away inside 6 Salmon Street, the family home that her formidable grandmother Dorothy has abandoned for a more convivial life at the Western Retreat Retirement Village. But when Phoebe begins receiving mysterious postcards in the mail, she slowly, but surely, finds herself being pulled back out into the world and towards Monty, the sweet postal clerk.

Story
Dolly Jamieson is not homeless, she's merely between permanent abodes. The 78-year-old spends her days keeping warm at the local library, where she enjoys sparring with the officious head librarian and helping herself to the free morning tea. It's not so bad, really. But it's certainly a far cry from the 1960s, when this humble girl from Geelong became an international star of the stage. As the acclaimed lead in the Broadway production of The Rose of France, all Dolly's dreams had come true. So how, in her old age, did she end up here?

Story
It’s 2006, and terror scaremongering in the media has rattled the residents of sleepy, suburban Dunlop Crescent. When a Maori family moves into number 14, the local cranks assume they are Middle Eastern terrorists hell-bent on destroying the Australian way of life. Rumour has it that they plan to turn their house to face Mecca. This sets off an extraordinary chain of events that embroils the entire neighbourhood as well as cynical media figures, bumbling antiterrorist police and a gang of white supremacists with a radical plan to wake up the country and ‘preserve Australian values’.

Story
Young Elly's world is shaped by those who inhabit it: her loving but maddeningly distractible parents; a best friend who smells of chips and knows exotic words like 'slag'; an ageing fop who tapdances his way into her home, a Shirley Bassey impersonator who trails close behind; lastly, of course, a rabbit called God. In a childhood peppered with moments both ordinary and extraordinary, Elly's one constant is her brother Joe. Twenty years on, Elly and Joe are fully grown and as close as they ever were. Until, that is, an earth-shattering event that threatens to destroy their bond for ever.

Story
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Publisher's Summary
A stunning, simply told story of great compassion and insight, from the author of the Stella Prize-shortlisted An Isolated Incident.
Nic is a 45-year-old trivia buff, amateur nail artist and fairy godmother to the neighbourhood's stray cats. She's also the owner of a decade's worth of daily newspapers, enough clothes and shoes to fill Big W three times over and a pen collection which, if laid end-to-end, would probably circle her house twice.
The person she's closest to in the world is her beloved niece Lena, who she meets for lunch every Sunday. One day Nic fails to show up. When Lena travels to her aunt's house to see if Nic's all right, she gets the shock of her life, and sets in train a series of events that will prove cataclysmic for them both.
By the acclaimed author of An Isolated Incident, Love Objects is a clear-eyed, heart-wrenching and deeply compassionate novel about love and family, betrayal and forgiveness and the things we do to fill our empty spaces.
Critic Reviews
"Bold, furious, unapologetic and deeply insightful." (Sofie Laguna, author of Infinite Splendours)
"A stunning, immersive novel that will change the conversation about class and about what possessions mean. It's important and funny and sad and beautiful, and I absolutely adored it." (Kathryn Heyman, author of Storm and Grace and Fury)
"One of the most big-hearted novels I've ever read. Each person fully formed, each scene and new catastrophe rooted in truth." (Bri Lee, author of Eggshell Skull)

A remarkable story of how we attach and de-attach ourselves to the people or objects around us to feel to safe and loved. A insightful and beautiful book

Fabulous performance by Zoe Carides 👏🏼
Love objects is a brilliant story of how we deal so differently with our own private struggles with pain, grief, family dynamics, and love in all its messy piles of glory. Its about how life can beat us up badly, and yet our human spirit will always find ways to glue the pieces back together, even if a little wonkily and carry on finding the good in the world, and the people we love. Highly recommend. 👌🏼🌻

pretty good!
The characters felt very real to me. The story too. There was something I didn't love about it (perhaps the swap between character narration?) that meant it was never a "I can't put this book down" story. Overall, a pretty good book

Aussie A.F
Zoe Carides’ narration was good, she had the characters voices down, fitting with the characterisations. The story lifts the lid on one family and how their lives intertwine and at times collide while they navigate life and what it has thrown at them. Realistic situations and family relationships of a sometimes dysfunction unit… aren’t they all at some point? If they aren’t you, it could be your neighbours. I liked it.

The other side of collecting
A view into the normality of hoarding disorder and the comfort it brings. I actually found myself jealous of Nic at times and her ability to remember with such vividness her treasured fleeting moments. The recent setting complete with bushfire haze, entitled and privileged school boys getting away with anything, me too movement and class divide added a realness for me. I forgot at times these characters are not real and they don't live an hour from where I grew up! I really enjoyed both the story and performance.
