Publisher's Summary

People often think of Job sitting on the ash heap, his life in shambles. But how did he get there? What was Job's life like before tragedy struck? What did he think as his world came crashing down around him? And what was life like after God restored his wealth, health, and family?

Through painstaking research and a writer's creative mind, Mesu Andrews weaves an emotional and stirring account of this well-known story told through the eyes of the women who loved him. Drawing together the account of Job with those of Esau's tribe and Jacob's daughter Dinah, Love Amid the Ashes breathes life, romance, and passion into the classic biblical story of suffering and steadfast faith.

Great story.

It was hard to follow the story breaks and i had to push the 30 second repeat often. The recording did not allow for transitions. Because it was such a good story, I pressed on, but it was difficult throughout.

Great book!

I didn’t want to quit listening... it makes me want to do more research into the Old Testament.

Incredible mix of History & Fiction!

I read this book when it was first published years ago, and I must say, the audiobook is even better. What a richly woven take on the age of the Patriarchs. I've always been especially intrigued with Dinah (Jacob's daughter), and this book tells a captivating story about what her life may have become, after personal tragedy. The author skillfully pulls together a multiplicity of historical and biblical material, to create an unforgettable listening experience. Also, the narrator's distinct vocalizations were perfect for this dramatic story. Truly a work of art!

Good book

The text content was a little slow at times, so I will not read it a second time.

Positively inspired.

Beautiful imagination with a basis in biblical truth. Best narrator I have heard yet. Every voice was distinctive. Characters came to life. I did have to go back and review the line of Isaiah to gain a better grasp of the relatives. I will read this book again. Phenomenal.

Beautiful narration and story!

I couldn’t put this down. The story was intriguing and the narration was very well done. She explains how she wove all these characters together and her historical research at the end, which I appreciated. It IS historical fiction, but being familiar with the characters as our patriarchs of faith made the story more enjoyable, although I really don’t think Jacob would have hung on to his deceitful nature after his calling, but maybe he did, as we all struggle with our flesh. I also don’t think the Word of God would have said that Dinah was raped if she she really wasn’t. Anyway this is her interpretation and I enjoyed it, whether I agree it would have been that way or not. It’s an interesting interpretation, and does make me want to dive into the word and understand these people even more.

Anther good one by Andrews

I liked this audiobook on job and kept my attention quite often. I had a hard time with a couple of the names keeping them connected to the story so I would have to playback some areas. Overall this book is well worth listening to, challenging me in some areas of my own walk with a God and His Ways. Just trusting Him, because He alone is God and I am not.
