Beautiful story with heart
An inspiring coming of age story about a young woman finding courage to love and be loved after childhood loss and trauma. The story is well researched and provides an accurate portrayal of the dynamics of domestic violence. A simple story told with insight, compassion and warmth. A cast of loveable characters. A reminder about the inestimable value of kindness and friendship.

Beautiful
I mostly enjoy mysteries and crime novels and although this book does have its own secrets to tell - it's a bit different to my normal book.
This book has found a way into my heart, so much so, that I'll be purchasing the hard copy to keep. The author has a mastery of words and humor and the deepest part of the how and why of her characters behaviors.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

While the book was slow to get started it's worth staying with it. Lovejoy is a wonderfully written character whose choices are truly representative of those who have gone through tragic childhoods. A lesson for those who can relate and for those who are looking to understand others.

“Show, don’t tell”
The story and characters make good bones of this book...but the writing lets them down. The writer has a lot to learn about the concept of “show don’t tell,” to keep her audience engaged with the story and characters. The internal monologues get carried away, leaving the story (and the reader) behind. I found myself skipping ahead to get back to the story, and it’s telling that I didn’t miss any pertinent details when I did so. It’s a shame, really, because this book could really make a statement about standing up to domestic violence and its perpetrators.

Deserves more stars
This book was an absolute winner for me.
The story and the performance are both fabulous, the characters entirely believable and the pace just right. The poetry contained within the book is good, and, although not necessarily to my taste, integral to the tale.
The only thing I don't like is that I don't know what happens next!

Unusually good book
I loved the way this book was written - the use of language, the metaphors, the internalising dialogue of Loveday. I thought the storyline was a little idealistic towards the end. The narration by Imogen Church was exceptional - absolutely loved the voice she gave Loveday.

Very moving
The story and narration moved me to tears, I wanted to hug Loveday if she'd let me. The secret and inevitable loneliness, whilst surrounded by people who care, shuddered my tiny world, will I ever wake. I suppose it is the power of a good audible that makes you believe Loveday is real.

Not just a book about books
I genuinely enjoyed it, the narration by Imogen Church is fantastic and captivating.
The story follows Loveday Cardew who prefers books to people (who doesn't sometimes!) She works and finds refuge in a secondhand bookshop in York, Engalnd. Shes an unusual character and as the story unfolds you find out why. The story continues to follow Loveday through her journey of self-discovery, figuring out who she can trust and who she can't.
There are emotional highs and lows of this book, with Lovedays traumatic childhood, how she deal with past and present relationships. But its nicely cut with whimsy and a light hearted tone.
I highly recommend listening to this book.

I’m not lost for words!
Not at all what I expected. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had me hooked right from the beginning to the end. Well researched and written with true empathy for the main character Loveday. I was pleasantly surprised to find I was immersed in a very familiar scenario of the emotive experiences of Loveday’s journey through life. As a foster carer of many troubled young people who have dealt with trauma in their own way, sometimes with resilience and laughter but often with anxiety, self harm and loss, I found this a great reminder of why I do what I do. We seldom get to experience the rewards of a job well done but this book reminded me that we don’t need it be be acknowledged. Thank you, you’ve done this. An extremely emotional read!
