Publisher's Summary

Also titled The Drowning Man.

Detective Inspector Vincent Ruiz is lucky to be alive. A bullet in the leg, another through the hand, he is discovered clinging to a buoy in the River Thames, losing blood and consciousness fast. It takes six days for him to come out of his coma, and when he does, his nightmare is only just beginning. Because Vincent has no recollection of what happened, and nobody believes him.

Critic Reviews

"A thoughtful and subtle thriller, with convincing, three-dimensional characters." ( Publishers Weekly)
"In addition to delivering top-notch pacing, plot, and characters...Robotham also understands that some quests are worth any sacrifice no matter how long the odds of success may be." ( Booklist)
"Ray Lonnen's delivery is full of a snap that reflects both Ruiz's regrets as husband, father, and police officer, and his contempt for his superiors' anger when he raises doubts over a case they would prefer remain closed. Those who relish earthy accents from London's most hardscrabble sections will find plenty of entertainment in Lonnen's performance." ( AudioFile)

Unputdownable!

An intriguing mystery that had me guessing until the end. Michael Robotham is a master storyteller! The excellent narration added another level, luring me into the story from beginning to end.

Another Michael Robotham page turner

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was cleverly pieced together, with trails of breadcrumbs that lead you on red herrings, or down the right path.

Being book 2 in the Joseph O'Loughlin series, I was initially thrown when it was about DI Ruiz, with O'Loughlin being a supporting character. Another clever stroke as far as I was concerned.

The narrator did an excellent job. His timing was perfect and there were clever touches, such as his pronunciation of "forehead" depending on who was saying it.

I would definitely recommend this book to others who enjoy whodunit's.

Looking forward to listening to the next in the series.

Not one of my favourites

I found this title hard going and struggled to get to the end. Just not enough to keep me invested in any of the characters. I thought the narration was very good and it was the main reason I stayed with the story until the end.

Enjoyable listen

A fab series to get into - great narration and a very good story line that has continued over from Book 1.

A great story

Another great listen. I was riveted right to the very end. An intriguing yarn with many twists. Can’t wait to listen to the next book in this series.

Enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this audiobook, not too many characters and the storyline flowed nicely. Michael Robotham certainly knows how to write a great story. Ray Lonnen is my favourite narrator, so I would recommend this audiobook to you.

Clearly not his best

What did you like best about Lost? What did you like least?

I really enjoy Michael Robothom's books but this one was definitely not his best and the narrator did not do a good job of telling the story - it was stilted and boring.

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Robotham again?

I have listened to all his books and loved them!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was not Sean Barrett and that was a great shame because the narrator failed to bring the characters to life.

Do you think Lost needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No follow up needed - it was drawn out and quite predictable unlike his other books

Great story

The sound was very inconsistent, I had to keep changing the volume, which was frustrating, but great story!
