About this listen

Lords of the Air continues the gripping battle between the two airship teams. The whole future of the airship program in Great Britain rests on the famous flight of Cardington R101. Will politics play too large a role? Will Charlotte be able to handle the very real stress of being married to an airshipman? Will her psychopath stalker, Jessup, triumph? Will Princess Marthe say yes to Lord Thomson’s proposal of marriage?

In 1920, the US Navy sent Lou Remington to England to learn how to fly airships and pick up R38/ZR-2. As chief coxswain, he leads his young crew with their dauntless support. That ship breaks in two, killing all but five men. After gallantly saving three of his crew, Lou is hospitalized and he meets the magnificent nurse Charlotte Hamilton and marries her. After a court of inquiry and a whitewash, it wasn’t long before the British come knocking at his door.

With the loss of the flower of their airshipmen in that terrible crash, the British are in dire need of talent and experience. Lord Thomson, who has been elevated to cabinet level by his friend Ramsay MacDonald, sets up a ‘new, improved airship program’—supposedly safer. Two teams have been formed, in ferocious competition with one another. One will fly to Canada, the other to India.

Lou’s future shines bright, although Charlotte has grave doubts. Her worry is affecting her mental health. She is trying to conceive, but without success, maybe due to stress. Lou has become absorbed in his work in coordinating between the two teams, which includes trying to keep the peace! As the clock ticks on, tension mounts, tempers fly and Lou’s task of keeping the peace gets harder, not only in the workplace, but also at home.
