About this listen

Newly remastered with additional sound design to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Lord of the Flies.

A plane crashes on a desert island and the only survivors, a group of schoolboys, assemble on the beach and wait to be rescued. By day they inhabit a land of bright fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. As the boys' delicate sense of order fades, so their childish dreams are transformed into something more primitive, and their behaviour starts to take on a murderous, savage significance.

First Published in 1954, Lord of the Flies is one of the most celebrated and widely read of modern classics

'The first book with hands - strong ones that reached out of the pages and seized me by the throat. It said to me, 'This is not just entertainment; it's life or death.' ... I've been thinking about it ever since, for fifty years and more.' Stephen King

'One of my favorite books - I read it every couple of years.' Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games

'A post-apocalyptic, dystopian survivor-fantasy ... [A novel] for all time ... A cult classic.' Guardian

I absolutely loved this story and the narration was perfect. I found it very hard to read due to the terror of the situation however; it took me many a month to complete as I had to keep putting it down to digest what was happening. A must read for anyone who loves to consume books.

Sensational reading

I think the story would have been better if the boys started to eat each other.

My essay was about the loss of innocence among the boys. Through imagery, symbolism and characterisation. Your welcome

Great book, but I kept getting hung up on the narrators pronounciation of asthma. Silly thing, but I found it quite imersion breaking. Apart from that it was a thoroughly enjoyable reading of this classic book.
