Story
Thirteen guests arrived at dinner at the actor's house. It was to be a particularly unlucky evening for the mild-mannered Reverend Stephen Babbington, who choked on his cocktail, went into convulsions and died. But when his martini glass was sent for chemical analysis, there was no trace of poison, just as Poirot had predicted. Even more troubling for the great detective, there was absolutely no motive.

Story
Lucy Angkatell invited Hercule Poirot to lunch. To tease the great detective, her guests stage a mock murder beside the swimming pool. Unfortunately, the victim plays the scene for real. As his blood drips into the water, John Christow gasps one final word: "Henrietta". In the confusion, a gun sinks to the bottom of the pool. Poirot's enquiries reveal a complex web of romantic attachments. It seems everyone in the drama is a suspect, and each a victim of love.

Story
The dentist was found with a blackened hole below his right temple. A pistol lay on the floor near his out-flung right hand. Later, one of his patients was found dead from a lethal dose of local anaesthetic. It's a clear case of murder and suicide. But why would a dentist commit a crime in the middle of a busy day of appointments? A shoe buckle holds the key to the mystery. Now, in the words of the rhyme, can Poirot pick up the sticks and lay them straight?

classic poirot twists and turns
Hugh Fraser reads beautifully and this story is classic Agatha Christie with lots of red herrings and twists and turns. My one comment to audible.com is that around the 2.5 hour mark there was about 10 seconds of technical glitchery in which every second syllable was garbled.
Otherwise really really great.

A superb mystery superbly read by Hugh Fraser
This Agatha Christie novel is read by Hugh Fraser who plays Captain Hastings in the TV series Poirot. His talent of bringing the dialogues to life is outstanding. His ability to sound like Poirot, Inspector Japp, Captain Hastings and variety of female characters, as well as his ability to imitate various accents makes you feel you can see the protagonists in your mind's eye. This is a hugely enjoyable plot, with the usual Agatha Christie twists and turns, that keep you guessing to the end.
A real treat, and I will certainly be buying more books read by Hugh Fraser.

No spoiler Review
Firstly, I recommend keeping up with the characters’ names and their relation to Lord Edgware, just because the story is very twisted; perhaps online forum or just writing down the name yourself should be sufficient. It is one of my ultimate favourite stories, not only because of the murderer and interesting plot, but rather a short monologue that occurs in some part of the book (no spoiler), it’s brilliant. It gives a character a new meaning and ‘flavour’ as Christie does not focus on twisted explanations but rather complex human nature. And yes, the plot does resemble one from the previous books, however, the character analysis is structured in a much better way.
I think you’ll greatly enjoy reading it, and be careful with the spoilers! Almost every forum says who the murderer was.

Christie at her best!
Wonderful classic Christie with a deliciously awful villain that kept me guessing even when I 'knew' the answer.
Captain Hastings plays a big part as Poirot's sidekick and is decidedly unsycophantic. A very nice change.
