Publisher's Summary
After over 20 years in the USMC and coming off a five-year tour as a contractor in Afghanistan, all Talon Clark wanted to do was spend time with his kids and wife on his ranch in Texas. Occasionally, taking a short-term contract job to pay the bills, Talon is marooned in Washington, DC, when the nation is attacked by a series of false flag operations against our infrastructure and is then devastated by a series of EMP attacks. With every major city burning and the nation’s electrical grid down, civil order has deteriorated to the point of no return, at least for the immediate future.
Separated by over 1,400 miles from his family, Talon sets out on foot to get home as fast as he can relying on his skills and experience. With only about a week’s worth of supplies in his get home bag, Talon must find supplies as quickly as he can and get out of the DC Metro area before the chaos overwhelms him. From his first steps, he finds out nothing is going to be easy or fast.

Nice but not great read (Listen)
The story is very predictable at times. For example "a woman wanting to have her way, only to screw things up when she does.. then she becomes helpless and needs a man's help...." boo... predictable. I read a ton of Post apocalyptic books. Most of those are better than this.

NOT JUST YOUR AVERAGE APOCALYPTIC BOOK
This is my first listen and won't be my last. What a GREAT book! I think it ended way too early, but that's what the next book is for, right? Texas never seemed so far away when disaster strikes and it will take a lot to get home. I'll follow along and root for the good guys and hope the snowflake comes around. The narrator is second only to Kevin Pierce and does a great job of keeping each character special.
Don't wait get a copy now! And David, Please write faster!! ;)

EMP & Societal Collapse
If you are a fan of this genre you will like the book. it sort of a coming of age book. Yes there are mistakes made and some of those have disastrous outcomes. The ending leaves you wondering, hoping, that a second book needs written and made into an Audible.
Steve Carlson did a good job on the narrative and I hope he will also be doing book two.

Great First Step
Enjoyed this book. While preparing for their obstacle I really enjoyed their choice of equipment , I would have selected much of the same. Good knowledge of what would be needed . Not sure I could have carried all the gear but when you have equipment available take it. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Pretty good
With the exception of the couple of not needed flashbacks at the beginning, not bad. Moves slowly. Exmilitary Man starts out of Maryland toward Texas. Picks up another exmilitary man, some college guys and a young woman at beginning of trek. It’s obvious the MC is the one keeping everyone alive through his knowledge and techniques. Interesting. Will get the next.

Sales pitch?
6 plus hours of infomercials for preppers, name brands for everything you need for an EMP that you can find along the way back home. The only thing missing was price comparisons.
