Publisher's Summary

From bestselling author Nick Spalding comes a hilarious, uplifting story about one man’s attempt to live a tech free life.

Andy Bellows is in a right state. Plagued with insomnia, anxiety and neckache, he’s convinced there’s something seriously wrong with him. And the worst thing is that his doctor agrees. The diagnosis: Andy is in the grip of a self-destructive addiction to technology - he just cannot put that bloody mobile phone down.

Texting, tweeting, gaming and online dating - technology rules Andy’s life. His phone even monitors his bowel movements. So how will he cope when he’s forced to follow doctor’s orders and step away from all of his beloved screens?

When he loses his precious digital window on the world, Andy discovers just how bewildering and scary living an analogue life can be. And when his sixty-day detox hits the headlines - making him a hero to suffering technophiles everywhere - Andy is sorely tempted to pack it all in and escape in the nearest Uber.

Can he get himself out of this mess, and work out how to live a better, technologically balanced life...without consulting Google even once?

Should have "logged off" after the first chapter

Not sure who was more annoying, the narrator or the author. Will be a right fit for some, but not this reader.

Good not great

I have listened to all of nick Spaldings books. They are all funny and some of them seriously makes me laugh out loud! This one was good and did make me smile but it wasn’t one of his bests or maybe I’m just use to the authors humor and it’s getting to the point where I’m like okay same old same old. Either way I did like it and would recommend it but it’s not his best work in my opinion.

The ducks did me in

I couldn’t finish this one. I slogged through the ranting and raving, the narrator’s brash delivery that is somewhat akin to Robin Leach, but the needlessly drawn out conversation with a duck finally did me in. I think it was meant to be funny, but like most of this book, it came across stiff and forced. The story had become less than believable - why would this guy strike out on a journey without an emergency plan? His need to be sullen and angry was too grating on my nerves, and it wore me out.

Laugh out loud funny

I'm a fan of Nick Spalding so it was a no-brainer to purchase this book. His writing always makes me laugh, but the performance of Rory Barnett absolutely MAKES this one. Oh my goodness, he's brilliantly matched to this story. I hope to find more audiobooks narrated by him (will always purchase anything Nick Spalding writes anyway) and I defy anyone who listens to this book to not piss themselves laughing at the Pug-a-lugs scene. Thank you for the much, much needed laugh!

Loved it.

I enjoyed the story. Actually inspired me to do a digital reduction; not courageous enough to go full on detox.

Nick you did it again!

Love Nick’s novels. This one makes you think and laugh. Again grest character development. Keeps things light and message that could help many. If you are a Nick Spalding fan listen for subtle references from other books woven in. Great narration by Rory!!
Thank you. The book helped me relax after work coming home from the hospital during the pandemic.

Logged off

I think for me, Nick stories have lost their initial charm. All the cheeky humor is still there but the characters are far from relatable or believable.

The concept was good but the execution fell short that after 10 chapters I just gave up.

First world problems.

Normally I really like Spaldings quirky protagonists and silly adventures. I felt the protagonist with this book really didn't seem to struggle with the challenge of "logging off" except for getting lost without a GPS. He called himself an addict, but then forgot to show any ongoing struggles with the addiction throughout the store. It came off as "Oh yeah, I should throw a line in hear about how he's struggling" instead of FEELING like an ongoing struggle. Also there was this weird meta thing where all the characters from his other books made a cameo? Probably won't re-read this one.

So Funny

Nick Spalding is one of my new favorite authors, he always makes me laugh. The audio version is even better.
This book is so timely - what would happen if we just disconnected? Logged off? No devices? How would we survive??
Hilarious, that's how.
The narration was great and funny as well. Totally recommend this book, you will laugh out loud. Which was not awkward with wireless headphones and no one knew I was listening to anything.....

Bit disappointing

Bit disappointing, quite annoying and predictable. But probably a fairly accurate portrayal of web addicted individuals.

Nice story. Great voiceover performance

The vocal performance by Rory Barnett is excellent with all the different voices and accents he does.
The story is also very good but it can get tedious at times with some unnecessarily long inner monologues by the protagonist.
