About this listen
All it takes to unravel a life...is one home truth.
Marin used to have it all. Married to the love of her life, she owns a chain of upscale hair salons, and Derek runs his own company. They're admired in their community and are a loving family - until their world falls apart the day their son Sebastian is taken.
A year later, Marin is a shadow of herself. The FBI search has gone cold. The publicity has faded. She and her husband rarely speak. With her sanity ebbing, Marin hires a Private Investigator to pick up where the police left off. But instead of finding Sebastian, she learns that Derek is having an affair with a much younger woman. This discovery sparks Marin back to life. She's lost her son; she's not about to lose her husband. Derek's mistress is an enemy with a face, which means this is a problem Marin can fix. Permanently.

I would like to add, although I have no issue at all with this one small side-story added, that it would be easy for women to spot/avoid a narcissist if they were all of one type.
It's well documented that narcissism comes from a place of shame and/or trauma. Therefore overt narcissists kind of don't fool a lot of people, while carrying out their abuse on unsuspecting victims. Meanwhile, a covert narcissist can easily manipulate an empathist into feeling sorry for them and constantly use their vulnerability to convince a kind woman/man they can help them and they stay to do so. As the gaslighting makes the CN feel better, they steal the empathist's soul and smear their character (to even out the books). Mentioned in this book was an "Overt" narcissist who is full of self importance, and showing it. They attract people. In between, there are so many variations of narcissism, usually living alongside Bi-polar, ASPD (aka Psychopaths and Sociopaths). One trait is across the board - compulsive lying. Bazaar reasons to lie, no reasons to lie, but they do. They double-down regardless of being caught red-handed. If they do apologise, they repeat the event soon after as apology reduces their power.
It is important for everyone to know the red flags early, equally important for friends and family to know and physically intervene - not give advice "just leave", then give up. Isolation puts the victim in danger, leaving becomes harder if no-one cares anymore. They need help! Even the strongest person you know can fall prey to a covert narc - they're the No.1 target type.
I'll say again, there was nothing wrong with this author's small story touching on the subject, but I feel so strongly that readers should not think they now know "what a narcissist is."
Will definitely be working my way through this author's catalogue - this was my first.
