Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The ground-breaking new book from former Special Boat Services Sergeant Jason Fox, star of Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins and best-selling author of Battle Scars.

Whether serving in the Special Forces, rowing oceans or investigating some of the world’s most notorious drug cartels, Jason Fox has overcome more than his fair share of emotional and mental conflicts. Now, he shares the tools he’s developed at the cutting edge of an elite military career and shows how you, too, can build the resilience and inner strength to overcome whatever challenges life puts in front of you.

During my military career, I dealt regularly with fear, emotional breakdown, pain in hostile environments and the horrors of war. I summoned bravery during intense gun battles and, perhaps more courageously, raised my hand for help during my darkest moment - though it took a while. The psychological techniques I developed during my time as an elite operator still serve me today, in and out of danger.

We all face internal conflict, both at home and at work. Some pressures threaten to crush us mentally, causing stress, anxiety and emotional turbulence. As Jason Fox recounts stories of the military operations and adventures that have tested his own resolve, Life Under Fire provides the tools required to overcome the toughest of internal battles and delivers the techniques we all need to become more resilient in life.

Great story!

A great personal story with a lot of helpful insights into dealing with such things as trauma, stress, change, loss and how to overcome, and move forward.
Well worth a listen, especially as it's authenticity narrated by the author.

why is a heading required? it says "optional"

I appreciated the realistic approach to issues of sexes or gender - straight forward, well evidenced and logical, made total sense to me. Feel like I'd benefit from reading previous work by this author now.

Lackluster

I enjoy watching Foxy on the TV and I hoped this book would be autobiographical as the title would suggest.. However, it's a rather simplistic outline of his team's and missions. I guess it's interesting with some nice pointers but fails to provide depth or sophistication on a subject I wasn't going to him for. It could've been a good opportunity for Foxy to retell his journey through the military into to the top and subsequent mental health and recovery. He'd have a lot more to offer by recounting that journey rather than "try to get on well with your team mates, and have a plan" etc.
