About this listen

High fantasy, low stakes with a double-shot of coffee.

After decades of adventuring, Viv the orc barbarian is finally hanging up her sword for good. Now she sets her sights on a new dream – for she plans to open the first coffee shop in the city of Thune. Even though no one there knows what coffee actually is.

If Viv wants to put the past behind her, she can’t go it alone. And help might arrive from unexpected quarters. Yet old rivals and new stand in the way of success. And Thune’s shady underbelly could make it all too easy for Viv to take up the blade once more.

But the true reward of the uncharted path is the travellers you meet along the way. Whether bound by ancient magic, delicious pastries or a freshly brewed cup, they may become something deeper than Viv ever could have imagined.

My only fuss was that I don't think she should have survived those burns without healing, or something.

The cozy fantasy I needed

I was wanting to listen to something Travis Baldree had narrated because I have just finished over 180 hours of his voice listening to the Mark of the Fool series and I still haven't had enough of his voice. I was surprised to see that he was an author aswell and had to give his book a try (even if it was initially just to hear him tell another story)
I have never listened to 'Cosy' fantasy before as I like more of a progression fantasy BUT (and that's big for a reason) ......I absolutely 100% loved every second of this story. It's original, it's written beautifully, it's got a bit of everything anyone (I) could want in a fantasy story. This is absolutely one of my favorite books now! The only downside is that there isn't 180 hours of it!

Just wow

We follow an Orc that has retired from the fighting life and wants to create a coffee shop!
Considering my blood must be part coffee, I needed to read this book.
It was way sweeter and nicer than I thought the book was going to be. I went I blind not reading the blurb at all.
The story is about building a coffee shop with an Orc who is slowly learning to build quality friendships that she's never really had before. I want to play chess with Durius (mainly because my husband's name is Darius and pronounced a similar way). I want to eat thimble's delicious treats and every time they were described through the book, I wanted to eat. Thanks Travis, I'm going searching for a cinnamon scroll today.
I listened to the audiobook and read the book at the same time.

Can I just say that Travis the author can read to me any day of the week !
A sweet read and palate cleanser between my heavier reads.

This story won't appeal to all fantasy lovers. There are no exciting battle scenes or extravagant uses of magic. Instead, it's a quotidian adventure about an orc who starts a coffee shop, together with the aid of a motley crew. If you like cozy fiction, or coffee, this delightful tale of friendship, community and belonging will enthrall you.
Narrated masterfully by Travis Baldree, the seasoned pro gives another stunning performance, with his many accents and subtle changes in tonality bringing to life the characters in his novel beautifully.
A joy to listen to. Highly Recommended.
