I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Story
Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

Uninspiring
overpowered MC relative to any situation he finds himself in, added forced conflict, dumb/unlucky enimies. Same hated original body owner taken over by an op character storyline. It didnt even pan out in an interesting or unique way. it was just - im the lord blah blah blah I give you food blah blah im a good lord now.

Pulp Fantasy done well.
This series is a good representation of Pulp Fantasy, easy to digest especially for newer Fantasy Readers. The story is fun, and it is a nice change to have an OP protagonist rather than a whiney youth trying to avoid their destiny yadda yadda. It is light reading / listening done well (excellent narration) and well worth your time.

After listening to books 1-4 I have come back to leave this review.

FanFic with all the characters stripped out.
This story feels like it started out as a moderately good fan fiction and then had all the settings and characters stripped out and replaced with non copy writen stand ins.
None of the characters or places are given any development in the actual story and we are just told of the greatness of the MC and the Epicness of the Magic Kingdom. This story is a collection of things happening in generic settings to cardboard cutout characters.
Beat of luck to a new author but this story really needed several more passes by an editor and onward critic to help him fill up the world and make his story come alive.

Unique story, but could have used a thesaurus
I won’t criticize the story, because it was fairly unique. I don’t like writing negative reviews, especially for new, young authors, but how can one learn if they don’t look at their critics too. I struggled to finish this. Although the main character had absolutely no backstory whatsoever, I thought it was a interesting take on the fantasy genre for a while, but pretty soon, my eye rolls and frustrations got the better of me. I had to look up the author’s Amazon page, and after reading his bio, his mistakes make more sense. Sisa is clearly young and new at this writing thing, and it shows in this work. I admire people who give it a shot, I know I couldn’t do it. So if Sisa is reading this, please take this as constructive.
I know its nitpicking, but I just couldn’t get past the repetitive use of the same verbs and adjectives. For example, every character in the story used “damn bastard” when describing an enemy. I mean, it was so much that it became distracting. Also, “he froze in fear” and “shook in terror” and other similar phrases didn’t need to be used every time something strange happened. The kicker for me was the use of “those guys.” Who in medieval-styled fiction says guys to describe a group of people? That’s modern slang and it takes the reader/listener right out of the story, at least two dozen times. Change it up a bit and use genre words that fit the period. And for the love of god, the expression is “he bit his tongue” when deciding not to say what’s on your mind, not “he bit his lips.” So, again, I’m not criticizing the story. But hopefully the author will learn that the wrong choice of words, or repetition of certain phrases will take the reader out of the story very quickly.
Ok, rant over.

Really Good World Building, but Poor Characters.
This is a pretty solid "rebirth" story, but it could have been so much better! The pacing is there, world building is a check! But the emotional attachment is close to none. Because the the author chooses to focus on the progression of the town, with the book being so short with multiple povs, you can tell it sacrifices any emotional development from the MC to other supporting characters because by the end of the first book you can see the MC hasn't developed, which I thought the point of a "rebirth" story was a catalyst for just that: baggage from a previous life to be addressed.
Overall it isn't bad story, it's one of the most polished stories with this concept I've read, and the narrator is PERFECT. He has great range and to me he helps get past the lack of emotional depth because of his performance. So thumbs up on this one, it maybe flawed, but there is alot of growth left!

Tossing in random slavery and torture
The book is not as amazing as everyone here says, there is almost no relationships between characters like they meet he tells them what he wants like some random dude playing a RTS gama and then it moves on.
There is also alot of scenes describing torture and super evil and vile ppl but no glimmers of that ever being resolved. fat incompetent leaders eating and beating ppl to death and there is no point to it like no thought of maybe this should be somthing some1 should be againts. The plot moves fast with the townbuilding wich is 90% and super slow with the actual plot and him getting to know the world and other ppl. im 10hrs in and he has no friends no love interests and no close relationships other than as "master" servant feels pointless and booring.
WHY IS HE EVEN BUILDING UP THE TOWN? whats the motivation? Hes not interested in becoming a king but he needs more power? hes not interested in changing the laws of slavery or stopping the war just letting shit happen even tough hes pretty much a god to these ppl.

I'm really disappointed.
This is DEFENETLY a spoiler.
I understand taking inspiration from other works to inspire your writing as an author myself, but this is too much.
I bought this story, a couple months ago, and although the writing is abysmal and really bad, the dialogues are stunted and choppy. and the characters are so one dimensional. But the one thing I loved about the book was the story, it was interesting, and it was a type of story that I like reading. To see how he would develop the town and how he will come up with inventions from his old life, was really interesting to me. Just to find out today that the story is basically a ripoff a Chinese manga called "Release that witch" this manga was released in 2016 by an author called Er Mu and completed in July 2019, and honestly, the story is done so much better with the original than this. I will say it is not 100% ripoff.
The main character is different in the way that he uses magic, and that he is reincarnated differently, but the fact that he was hated before and that he used to be promiscuous, and that he has an old man buttler is exactly the same, that they're fighting for the throne. that it it a border down with no resources and beastly animals we're attacking, even giving workers and soldiers extra egg for rewards is the same, and so much more.
It is close enough that it is a complete put off. I feel like I wasted my time reading this, because I struggled through the writing. And I wasted my money when I could be supporting the original author. I liked the story so much, and to find out the story doesn't even belong here is really the worst
I will recommend reading the original it is an interesting story.

Morally vacuous
I would really like any of his opponents to kill off the this overpowered character who is a morally vacuous, sociopath. In a story that is forced to try and patch major plot holes long after the fact.
So much wrong with the character, the vague and poor justification for torture despite being able to read minds, he somehow finds this torture justified and more effective!? he treats others like crap and they love him, yes every plan and strange idea works because he has knowledge from his other life ( god's this whole genius thing due to everything he knows gets old fast) no one ever asks why they just do it because the young master is always right and is wise and strong. The authors bias and dogma really creep me out as does his lead character and story arc.

Didn’t expect the awesomeness
Wow. I think I had a great feeling about this book by chapter 2 what’s not to like of a story where the main character basically gets to keep all his memories in a new body? But now that the book is done I can say that I loved it! Great narrator and I am looking forward to the next book. I spent my last hour listening to the book on amazon looking for everything this author has written and I followed the good Doc.
I only picked this book to read coz it was released the day I was looking for a book and it was a 2books in 1 Situation! I can only hope that the next time I take a chance on a new book it will be this awesome .

Not your average RPG - this book has depth!
I really enjoyed these books, the story line is really well met, and the whole thing had me gripped. Well read to. Only gripe is book 2 is left in a place where more information is needed for the story to be resolved. So where is book three? Horrible when you're left hanging. Book is so good still would still recommend hearing though ....

A decent story made even better by narrator that is my new favourite great voices for all the characters and no sound effects in sight!
