Better than Duolingo and Similar Tools

As someone who has never had a formal introduction to French before, this audiobook made learning the basics very easy. I like how it constantly instructed you to repeat the phrases and gave you tips on pronunciation. I also really love how it's divided up into a weekly schedule, because this incentivizes daily learning. This is a great tool for those who want an overview of French.

Good for Phrases and Pronunciation

What I like about this audiobook: -I studied French in school, but need a lot of help with grammar and pronunciation which this helps a lot with -More likely to actually use an audiobook than sit down with a textbook, easy to use in daily schedule -Lessons are broken down by week and day, so know exactly how long the whole program is -Each lesson is ~10-15 mins, so doable each day and perfect for my ~10 min commute -Dialogues instead of just verb drills help with more natural sounding sentences and phrases -Narrator is very clear and easy to understand, gives good amount of time for repetitions -Good ratio of listening to speaking practice -Breaks down each sentence and word very clearly, helps soo much with pronunciation  -Within the first few minutes, tips on pronouncing the French 'R' sound immediately made a difference

Realistic scenarios. Use the PDF.

The introductory narrater's voice had no enthusiasm so it started off a bit boring and I was concerned I may fall asleep if that was going to be the whole book! But when the lesson begins, the French man's voice and the other English narrator's voice are much better. I think the conversations are very realistic scenarios, so it is something I know I will use when I go to France. I would recommend to follow along with the PDF. I don't think you can just listen and learn and remember so many new words without seeing it on paper too.

Great book for beginners

The most helpful aspect of this book is how it breaks down the pronunciations. Breaking down each syllable made all the difference for me and whenever I want I could refer to the pdf. Each lesson is about 15 minutes, so that’s just about right to adequately hold the listeners’ attention. The narrator uses the technique of repetition, which is actually great given the fact that this book is for beginners. A quick review of the words that I learned from the last chapter at the beginning of a new lesson helps in remembering them well. I would say this audiobook is a great way to productively utilize all those extra time that the pandemic has given us.

A good book for travelers

Learn French for Beginners is designed to teach French words and phrases useful for travel in and around France. It covers such things as customs, asking for directions, riding public transportation and meeting and greeting people. Words and phrases are taught to sound more like a native and less like a textbook. At the beginning of each lesson they review words from previous lessons. at the end of each week is review of the week's lessons. The good thing about Learn French for Beginners is being able to learn to say useful words and phrases like a native. I also like that each lesson reviews words from the previous lessons and at the end of each week is a review of the week’s lessons. The only things I didn’t like was not being able to rewind while listening. There were times I wanted to hear something again but couldn't. I wish the topic of each lesson was listed in the chapter list. Overall, I was happy with learn French for beginners and I recommend it for anyone planning a trip to France.

Very intuitive

Listening to this audio book while I work from home is awesome, and definitely a highlight of my day (sadly, thanks to covid-19). I love how the narrator Breaks down the french words into syllables, and starts pronouncing the words from the last syllable to the first syllable, this is by far my favourite part of the audiobook I wish the narrator did this throughout the audiobook because it really helped me alot. I also enjoy the fact that I can look through the PDF while I listen to the audio book, making understanding and reading far more easy and it helped me differentiate which words were masculine or feminine through the sounds and also through the spellings. Overall I loved how intuitive it was, and still is. I enjoyed listening to every second of the audiobook, my pronunciations are definitely better. 5 stars

Well-structured and fun

In this audiobook, I was first struck, being a French teacher myself, at how well the voices were enunciated, both in French and in English. I also appreciated the emphasis on the practicality of audio learning, which is easy to “insert” into a busy professional's schedule---along with a free pdf version also inclused, very useful for looking at the way the text in the audiobook is spelled. One can listen to the audiobook while doing other everyday tasks. The audiobook is well structured, in different lessons that take place daily. The listener is introduced, first in English, to a situation such as needing to take a train to a French city, but not knowing what time the train leaves; then, in French, the listener is presented with a simple dialogue.

Very helpful without taking up a lot of time

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I like that it is divided into daily lessons that are about 10-15 minutes each. I can get daily practice in and still have time for the rest of my busy schedule! This is also a much easier way to study than simply using a textbook for me. I can listen on my way to work, while working out, etc. The dialogues and narrator are both easy to understand and also really help with listening practice. Overall, this has helped with my pronunciation and it is an enjoyable way to learn French.

Makes French listening and speaking a lot easier

One of the most difficult things about learning French is understanding what’s being said. to a beginner, the French seem to talk so fast and it is difficult to identify words that you do know. Well, this resource is invaluable. Use it regularly, once a day as suggested, and you’ll be able to pick up what’s being said in French conversations. The lessons start with a realistic conversation, spoken at the natural speed, in French. Then the conversation is broken down, translated, instructions are given on pronunciation, grammar/verbs identified and explained and a final test to see if you’ve understood the short conversation again at the end. The lesson is perfectly paced, right length and ideal for beginners.

Increased my understanding to about 80%

When I first started learning French, I could only understand maybe 10%, but after days of listening to this, I am able to understand up to 80%. This audio file has really helped me a lot, language isn’t easy but definitely worth it.

Great and easy to follow!

This audiobook is great to learn basics of French. There is a daily lesson of about 10-15 minutes for a total of 4 weeks. I find it easier to learn when I’m at home, or on the bus because I need to follow what’s being said with the pdf. But if you have a great memory, you can listen to it whenever and wherever! At the start of each lesson, there is a clear overview (in English) of what the lesson is about and what we will learn that day. We get to hear a conversation in French, then have an overview of each key word/expression, their meaning, and how to properly pronounce them. There are also grammar lessons and tests to make sure we’re learning! The pdf really helps in visualising the words too and remembering them more easily. I definitely recommend to anyone wanting to learn French from real-life scenarios!

Best way to learn French for beginners

Used this book during lockdown as I always wanted to learn a new language, so I ceased the moment. The book is structured in such a way that is easy to follow, it offers the reader/ listener real-life scenarios, great pronunciation techniques, grammar and vocabulary exercises. After each lesson you have a test and also a weekly review. What I really loved about the book was the fact that you can listen to it while you are doing your day to day errands and you don’t need pen and paper to learn. Highly recommended!

So much more interactive then the apps out there

I enjoyed experiencing this book. It was a great tool to learn a language while I worked to work. I found the speaker engaging and supportive in their wording. Each class starts with a brief so your clear on what you'll learn. I found this extremely helpful along with the speaker teaching through conversation to teach you. I struggled to find the PDF material. I learned the language through the course without it so this wasn't a massive deal.

Makes learning French very simple.

I felt before like "I need more practice!". Listening to this audiobook I had 4 weeks of daily, step by step practice lessons, that helped me understand the basics of dialogue forming in French and the most important improved my pronunciation. You can hear very clearly how to pronounce each word. One of the best tools for beginners learning French.

An ideal audio book for beginners in French

I purchased this audio book to learn French as a beginner. As a native English speaker, I must say that the approach used in teaching French in this book really helped me learn basic conversational words and phrases easily from the onset. I love the voice clarity and the content. It's worth the price!
