About this listen

With the acclaimed Temeraire novels, New York Times bestselling author Naomi Novik has created a fantasy series like no other. Now, with LEAGUE OF DRAGONS, Novik brings the imaginative tour-de-force that has captivated millions to an unforgettable finish.

Napoleon’s invasion of Russia has been roundly thwarted. But even as Capt. William Laurence and the dragon Temeraire pursue the retreating enemy through an unforgiving winter, Napoleon is raising a new force, and he’ll soon have enough men and dragons to resume the offensive. While the emperor regroups, the allies have an opportunity to strike first and defeat him once and for all – if internal struggles and petty squabbles don’t tear them apart.

Aware of his weakened position, Napoleon has promised the dragons of every country – and the ferals, loyal only to themselves – vast new rights and powers if they fight under his banner. It is an offer eagerly embraced from Asia to Africa – and even by England, whose dragons have long rankled at their disrespectful treatment.

But Laurence and his faithful dragon soon discover that the wily Napoleon has one more gambit at the ready – one that that may win him the war, and the world.

it did drag on this book... but I was committed to the series by now and needed resolution. again she describes the madness and brutality of colonialism which I'm sure at least some in the day realised.
very meticulous description of battle for those who like that kind of thing.

A drag on tale condemning if colonialism.

from reading the first book during highschool, to finishing the series in audio in my working years, and i can say that though I'm sad for the series to end its been a hell of a ride and an experience i will treasure and anyone who is a fan of dragons or alternate history, should pick this up either in audio or book form.

End to a saga

Napoleon’s invasion of Russia has been roundly thwarted. But even as Capt. William Laurence and the dragon Temeraire pursue the retreating enemy through an unforgiving winter, and Napoleon is raising a new force. Temeraire and his mate Iskierka must rescue their precious egg, which has been stolen by Napolean and the evil dragon Lien. This is five stars for the whole series- what a wonderful series overall- this book 4 stars, however. It just did not have the engaging quality of the others and I felt like some things were wrapped up too quickly.

great series wrapped up too quick?

As the final book in Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series, League of Dragons delivers a satisfying, if slightly bittersweet, conclusion to one of the most compelling fantasy sagas I’ve ever read. After eight books of war, adventure, and the deepening bond between Captain William Laurence and his dragon companion, Temeraire, this finale brings their journey full circle with the weight of all they’ve endured.

One of the greatest strengths of the Temeraire series has always been its character work. Laurence and Temeraire’s relationship remains at the heart of the book, as strong and complex as ever, but Novik also gives space to the many other dragons and humans who have played key roles throughout the series. It’s easy to become invested in them, and that makes the conclusion all the more poignant.

As a farewell to one of the best fantasy series I’ve ever read, League of Dragons is a worthy send-off. It’s a book filled with thrilling battles, heartfelt moments, and the kind of worldbuilding that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Laurence and Temeraire’s journey may be over, but their legacy—both within the story and in the hearts of readers—will endure.

A conclusion to one of the great fantasy series.
