About this listen
Invisibility has been Clara’s go-to survival skill since childhood. So she hides behind her thick glasses and heavy fringe, working as a teaching assistant at the exclusive Molton Prep, happy with her seven-year-old pupils and avoiding their posh parents. Her one secret indulgence? Watching the gorgeous but wildly intimidating Lord Rafe Sterling sweep into school to collect his son.
Her crush on him is ridiculous. Lord Sterling is way older than her, aristocratic, terrifying, and tipped to be one of the UK’s youngest judges. Even if she did stand a chance, a girl with a background like hers should avoid him at all costs.
Rafe can’t believe the school has the balls to tell him he can’t meet the Miss Clara who told his son his brain “works differently”. Nobody refuses a meeting with Lord Sterling. But when he bulldozes his way past the rules to confront her, he’s shocked by how much the shy, mousy woman affects him. She might be too scared to make eye contact, but when it comes to defending his son, she’s surprisingly fierce. And after he convinces her to work as his son’s tutor and she gradually stops flinching in his presence, his obsession with her only grows.
As a rule, he gets what he wants, and Rafe wants Clara very badly. But he should be careful what he wishes for, because Clara Morris is not who she says she is. In his arrogance, he pushes her away, not realising that her fear runs deeper than simple shyness, not seeing the danger she’s in until it’s too late…
LAW MAKER is an opposites-attract, billionaire, age-gap, single-dad contemporary romance, perfect for fans of intense, protective heroes and heroines overcoming trauma to find their happily-ever-after.

©2025 Susie Tate (P)2025 Susie TateOne of those parents is Lord Rafe Sterling, powerful, aristocratic, and entirely beyond her reach (in her perspective). She quietly admires him from afar, fully conscious that someone of her standing should not even consider the possibility. However, circumstances change when Rafe bursts into her life after expressing dissatisfaction with how the school, and Clara address his son’s needs. That initial confrontation was a remarkable moment; you instantly witness the conflict between his authoritative presence and her quiet resilience.
What I loved is that Clara is not merely shy, she possesses depth. When it comes to advocating for Rafe’s son, she reveals a fierce, steadfast side that completely surprises him. This is what ignites everything. As she becomes increasingly involved in his son’s life, and as Rafe intrudes into hers, their bond develops in a profoundly intense, slow-burn manner.
Rafe is accustomed to getting what he desires, and once he focuses on Clara, there is no turning back, he is fully committed. Clara conceals far more than just insecurity, and as her past and the threats surrounding her gradually emerge, the emotional stakes significantly heighten.
I was truly captivated by the themes intricately woven into the narrative, trauma, identity, power, and the meaning of feeling secure with someone. Watching Clara gradually emerge from her shell while Rafe learns (often through difficult experiences) that control is not everything made their journey feel remarkably authentic and rewarding.
The audiobook narration significantly enhanced the overall experience. Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown were outstanding together. Shane East brought a strong, commanding presence to Rafe, while Zara Hampton-Brown as Clara was flawless, providing a voice that perfectly matched my vision of Clara, making her vulnerability, strength, and growth feel even more genuine. Furthermore, if you appreciate sophisticated British accents, this audiobook is truly exceptional, so immersive and enjoyable to listen to.
If you enjoy opposites attract, age-gap romance with emotional depth, a protective hero, and a heroine discovering her strength, I highly recommend this. I will be pre-ordering the next instalment in the series, which tells the story of Rafe's sister, Poppy. I really enjoyed getting to know her in this book.
