Publisher's Summary

"If there's a living writer whose work makes me think of the great Raymond Chandler, it's Jake Needham.” (James David Audlin, author of The Train)

"Jake Needham is Michael Connelly with steamed rice." (The Bangkok Post)

Once a high-flying international lawyer, a member of the innermost circles of government power, Jack Shepherd has abandoned the savage politics of Washington for the lethargic backwater of Bangkok, where he is now just an unremarkable professor at an unimportant university in an insignificant city. Or is he?

A secretive Asian bank collapses under dubious circumstances and a former law partner Shepherd thought was dead reveals himself as the force behind the disgraced bank.

Coerced into helping his old partner track the hundreds of millions of dollars that disappeared in the collapse, Shepherd follows a twisting trail of deceit from Manila to Hong Kong to Bangkok and eventually to an isolated villa on the fabled island of Phuket where he confronts the evil at the heart of a monstrous game of international treachery.

A lawyer among people who laugh at the law, a friend in a land where today’s allies are tomorrow’s fugitives, Jack Shepherd battles a global tide of corruption, extortion, and murder that threatens to destroy the new life he has made for himself in Thailand.

A good mediocre job

Narration was very good but story well, it was a good mediocre job. It had suspense and also a detective story with twists and turns, but still from my point of view it was not above the average.

The Teacher who Really was a Detective

I love Jack Sheppard's character, he reminds me of Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca's character . Filbrich novels are in general very entertaining and this audiobook in particular certainly dud not let me down...listening to this novel was like actually watching a 1920"s detective story unfold in 2016....wonderfully written, entertaining and awesomely professional narrator and writer...I give Freds, Jack Needham series ... 5 Stars and me and my doppelganger give it Two Thumbs up!
An Author DEANN DEVILLE favorite.

Exciting

Jack Shepherd is always in the middle of mystery and intrigue. He is a very engaging character. You will listen to this great storyline to the end and will be purchasing the next audio in the series, which get better and better.

Exciting story, tame narration

I loved this story, the backdrop of Thailand, the main character, and the feeling I knew as little as the main character about what was happening to him. Overall a very well crafted story. My only complaint is the narration. The narrator's voice is good, but his passion for the story lacked entirely.

I now know what Jack sounds like

What did you love best about Laundry Man?

Finally after all these years of reading Jack Shepherd novels, its great to put a voice to the name. Welcome Mr Shepherd, you have a voice! I admit, it took me half the first chapter to let go of the voice in my head (the one i was so sure over many years WAS Jacks voice)... and accept the voice that the author himself believed to be Jack's. The character's Jake Needham creates in his books are as authenticate as you can get when it comes to this genre. The narrator did a great job, and by the end of Laundry Man , Jacks "new" voice was entrenched in my brain. Look forward to hearing more in the series. Singapore's own Samuel Tay is next on my list! Well done, and thank you for bringing Jack Shepherd off the pages and into my iPhone!
