About this listen

"So I thought I might take up paragliding. You know, buy one on eBay and just jump off the cliff one morning."

Emily Willows is middle-aged, widowed, wealthy, and bored. When she makes those flippant remarks to her son over coffee one Friday, she has no inkling that within a few hours she will be facing the most terrifying situation of her life. Nor could she have guessed that she will be confronting it with the enigmatic young woman who moved in next door a few months ago and who has hardly spoken a word to her since. And neither of them has realized yet that after this meeting, their lives will never be the same again.

When Emily Willow had started her birthday morning she had not expected to be chased through the countryside by gang wielding villains.
She would never complain to her son Robert again that life was rather boring at times!

I’m a big Peter Grainger fan but this was quite different from the DC Smith series. I was a bit hesitant at the start but it wasn’t long before I was totally involved with the story and couldn’t stop listening. Different, but just as good

Surprisingly good, gripping!

After the DC series this one fell a little flat. I think the narration let it down but the pace of the story distracted me enough to get to the end of the story with some enjoyment . But where do you go from DC & that narration...only down I guess

Fine

Lots of action, with a gutsy main woman character. The older woman started out a bit of a caricature but came good. Great fun.

A pacy romp

I enjoyed listening to this book. So unlike other crime books. I liked the narrator and will definitely be looking out for more Willows and Lane adventures.

Enjoyed this

Having cut my teeth on the DC Smith series I was left breathless at the complete change of pace in “Lane”.
Grainger remains the wordsmith and the choice of narrator compliments this story completely. I binge listen once again.

And now for something completely different

I don't understand the narration complaints. Henrietta is absolutely fine and spot on for my ears anyway. story was fine, imaginative but maybe too short for a full credit.

good story, great narration

I LOVE the DC Smith stories and the Kings Lake Investigations Series. It was therefore obvious that this would be my next listen. I enjoy Lane as a character, she is complex, sarcastic and clever. Much like the female stars of the aforementioned series’. Emily Willows is insufferable though. But maybe that’s the point. I cannot stand her as a personality so I’m hoping that exposure to Lane will loosen her up.
Enjoyed the story but it felt a little rushed. Narration was fine, nothing special.

Lane is fantastic, Willows is…

I enjoyed both the story and the performance of this book. The narration was matter of fact like Lane.

Enjoyable

Subtle character development with an interesting unfolding story of a seemingly mild widow and her mysterious neighbour.

Enjoyable
