S'inspirant de la figure de Michel Adanson, naturaliste français (1727-1806), David Diop signe un roman éblouissant, évocation puissante d'un royaume où la parole est reine, odyssée bouleversante de deux êtres qui ne cessent de se rejoindre, de s'aimer et de se perdre, transmission d'un héritage d'un père à sa fille, destinataire ultime des carnets qui relatent ce voyage caché.

Beautiful harrowing story

Fascinating, confronting story that brought another world to life, and a beautiful narration, but I found the ending disappointing.

What a beautifully written story

A journey in time in France and Senegal. Beautifully written with such detailed descriptions that at time I felt I was there.
