Zehn Jahre sind seit der ersten Kontaktaufnahme mit dem Pilzgeschöpf, das sich über die ganze Erde ausgebreitet hat und sich selbst KoLar nennt, vergangen. Seitdem lebten die letzten Menschen mit ihm und seinen Geschöpfen in einer Art Waffenstillstand zusammen. Die Wunden der Kämpfe zwischen den Baumwesen und den letzten menschlichen Überlebenden, die jahrzehntelang gewütet haben, sind zu frisch, um von einem friedlichen Miteinander zu sprechen. Der Argwohn, der zwischen den beiden Parteien für so lange Zeit geherrscht hat, legt sich nur langsam. Und dann taucht ein neuer Feind aus den Tiefen der nuklearen Endlager auf, der nur ein Ziel kennt: Die Vernichtung KoLars und aller Menschen!
