I forbindelse med nogle husbesættelser i København har der været en kraftig debat om politiets magtanvendelse, og her tænkes specielt på brugen af tåregas. En del af dagspressen og flere politikere fandt, at politiet ved brug af tåregas havde foretaget en optrapning. Andre gav udtryk for, at der straks må sættes ind over for disse besættelser, og at det må være politiledelsens opgave at beslutte med hvilke hjælpemidler den bedst muligt og med den mindste indsats og risiko kan klare den enkelte opgave. I det følgende skal jeg beskrive nogle situationer, der viser vanskelighederne ved at træffe "den rigtige" beslutning i forbindelse med anvendelse af magtmidler.
