Publisher's Summary

Never fall for a mark. Mission fail.

Christopher Perri - aka Dante Perry - infiltrated the Madigan organization with one goal: vengeance for his murdered partner. Falling for the assassin at the head of the table wasn't part of the plan, but Hawes Madigan is not the cold, untouchable Prince of Killers Chris expected. Everything about the newly crowned king is hot, and every inch of him eminently touchable...and off-limits once Chris's cover is blown.

Exposure couldn't come at a worse time. Hawes's throne is threatened, and Chris suspects the same person who killed his partner is behind the coup. Working with Hawes benefits them both, but Chris's employer has other ideas. Dismantling criminal organizations is what Chris does best, and his boss expects the King Slayer to deliver.

But Hawes is taking the Madigans in a new direction, one Chris can get behind, and the two men form a shaky alliance strengthened by the irresistible attraction between them...until Chris learns who killed his partner. Once he knows the truth, the King Slayer is unleashed, and Chris will stop at nothing to destroy those who betrayed him, including the king who stole his heart.

Contains mature themes.

It was great!

3.5 - 4 Blue Roses
4 Blue Flames
Narrator Tristan James tried his best with his smooth and deep smoky voice to give a well-rounded performance,,,but honestly,,, I can not fucking pinpoint the source of my disappointment.

The cover, the title, the narrator, the author, and the fucking plot, all of them just screams GREATNESS!

I don't know, maybe should up my meds?

Any fucking way, I'm going to set a reminder for myself to re-listen to this one in a year. I have to, if only for the hot sex. The chemistry between the MC's is off the charts, I thoroughly enjoyed that at least.

Hopefully, my fellow audiobook addict listeners will be able to explain my reluctance that this was not the exceptional contemporary romance I wished for.
I do recommend this audiobook, it's part of a series and the first installment is a cliffhanger, maybe listening to the books when they are all out and available on audio will have a different effect, as I find the magic and tension is lost with cliffhangers.

I know I promised to re-listen in a year to pinpoint the origin of my disappointment with a fresh set of lenses.
But, I'm back! And had a re-listen due to popular demand.

Once again my tongue was hanging out and my knees quivered for the two sexy alpha men.

Yip, the book starts out with a bang! Listeners are immediately introduced to the scene where Dante left Hawes cuffed to the bed. The narrator has some versatility with different voices, we are able to differentiate between male and female voices. He does show some emotion, but there is room for improvement. He does convey antagonism and irritation and lots of smoldering sexual tension. The rest of the reading is at times monotonous. After a few hours I loose interest.

The dialogues are OK, but when we have 3 or more male voices in one room, plus the narrator's natural reading voice, things tend to get confusing. The book was not written or edited for audiobook.

The author's style is to go off on tandems, its irritating and I loose focus on what is really happening and I miss key points.
Internal dialogues and reasoning makes it feel drawn out.
Example: Chris, busy with USB drive, cat, Izzy, explosives, water, shower, Hawes, wants Hawes, going through files, Speaker, cat...

The scene where Chris (Dante) finds Hawes waiting for him at his house with a beer in his hand.
Chris asks Hawes are you sure about this.....tandem...,, more rambling, run his hands under Hawes shirt,,, Hawes says on three "Chris skip one and two" "three."
I guess some editing specific for audiobook performance is needed.
I can hear Chris skip or is skipping one and two when he says three.

Good story but a little confused

It took me a long time to work up the nerve to listen to this. Mostly due to the fact it's single pov which I'm finding I don't like. I read prince of killers and had the same problem. The story is good but by the end I was so confused on what was going on that it took me several minutes after listening to construct what occurred. Rude cliff hanger ending though and I'm thrilled to finally be onto a new empire soon!

Good but....

Story is good. However I feel played by publisher and audible. These three parts are one book. I mean come on. Why am I paying $14 for a five hr story each. When I’ve paid the same for a better written and narrated 16hr story?! Do better. It’s never good to take advantage.

Good

Second book, nicely carrying on story. Looking forward to next book. No cliff hangers tg
