Josef Hader (*1962) begann seine Karriere als Solokabarettist in den 80er Jahren im Kabarett Niedermair, der nach wie vor wichtigsten Bühne für Nachwuchskünstler. Aus dem klassischen Nummernkabarett entwickelt er im Laufe der Jahre eine Programmform, die sich durch starke persönliche Formgebung und dramaturgische Geschlossenheit auszeichnet.
Mit "Im Keller" (1991) und "privat" (1994) gilt er als eine der wichtigsten Persönlichkeiten des neuen österreichischen Kabaretts. 1991 verfasste Hader gemeinsam mit Alfred Dorfer die Tragikomödie "Indien", die 1993 von Paul Harather verfilmt wurde und zu einem der Publikumshits des österreichischen Films avancierte.
