His air-service ministry to isolated missionaries put him on a path of destiny that would ultimately end with a final airplane flight with four missionary friends to the "Palm Beach" landing strip in the jungles of Ecuador. The men's lives given that day not only opened a door to the gospel for the unreached "Aucas"; it has been said that possibly no single event of the twentieth century awakened more hearts to God's call to serve in missions.

Hudson survived his perilous maiden voyage to his beloved China. With his heart set in determined obedience to God, Hudson overcame persecution and almost overwhelming personal losses to bring God's truth to the "ripe harvest fields" of China.

After having purchased her one-way ticket to China, she left the UK with a single-minded determination to do what God had commanded her. She knew she was meant to go to China - even if no mission was prepared to support her.

She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

A true disciple of our Lord and Saviour
- By Lois on 31-10-2016
Publisher's Summary
Jim and Pete turned to see the Auca men, their deadly spears raised, running toward Nate, Ed, and Roger. Jim stood in the river, his hand on his pistol. Should he defend himself? He already knew the answer. Each man had promised the others that he would not save himself by killing those they had sought out in Jesus' name. Jim Elliot and his coworkers surrendered their lives in Ecuador's jungle, trusting that their sacrifice would not be in vain. Decades later, this dramatic event has challenged countless Christians to live with one great purpose: To bring the gospel to those who have never heard. (1927-1956).

I Never Tire of Inspiring Missionary Stories
Being a missionary myself, it is encouraging to know the stories of those who walked this path of faith with Jesus before me. It is encouraging to know they were ordinary people, just like me, with an extraordinary call. Great job on the audio presentation of this book. All these books in the series are an excellent inspiring collection.

Profound Example of God Moving in Someone's Life
Would you listen to Jim Elliot again? Why?
Yes, incredibly inspiring and enriching story.
Have you listened to any of Tim Gregory’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, without spoiling the outcome, the part about the encounter with the indian tribe and how that experience brought them to know God.
Any additional comments?
I was moved to tears.

Great Overview
As with most abridged works it felt at times that the authors were working hard to summarize the story which made it feel a little lacking for details, but I guess I could have just read "Through Gates of Splendor". I did feel like I got a great high level overview, but I would say that it felt like many of the spiritual details were removed. I cannot be too critical because I have not read the Through Gates of Splendor. Overall with the time. Thanks.
