I'm hooked

I am officially stuck on this series. It's just so much fun. The characters are real, have depth, inner struggles, and shortcomings. But, they are all so likeable. And, the laugh out load scenes are just so...real and funny. I love the writing. This series was recommended to me a while ago, and it just didn't look like something I'd like. So, I put it off. Then, someone recommended I start with book 4 and I loved it. I went back in again for book 1 and loved it just as much. I had to force myself to stop listening in order to actually get things done.

I love all the characters, but I have to note that I love strong female characters. They may hurt, be vulnerable, even cry. But, they aren't weak. And, I really liked Carly. Jase was pretty awesome too. And, his brothers are outrageous. Very much my husband and all of his brothers.

I admit, I was really skeptical of the narration when I started. The female narrator has this nasally sound in her voice, it's not really her tone or her voice, but in her voice at times. And she makes many of the females sound annoying. BUT, after just a few minutes, I wasn't noticing it. Her performance was so on point. The depth of emotional ups and downs and delivery was really good. Only when she would do some of the female characters, I would notice a little because she would give them this sing song, high pitched, nasally voice. But, I say that to say, I've stopped listening to a book for far less. Her natural tone, inflection, and performance actually had me enjoying it a lot. And, her male characters were done very well.

I was confused about the inclusion of the male narrator. While what he did do was really good. I'm not sure that he narrated even 30 minutes of this almost 9 hour book. Hours went by before he even showed up, and then it was for just a few lines or so. I thought at first it was an error that it said 2 narrators. He did a really great job, and I would have liked to hear more of him. Over all just a super fun listen, well worth the time.

Jase

If you could sum up Jase in three words, what would they be?

respectful- Kind - Loveable

What other book might you compare Jase to and why?

i don't compare

Have you listened to any of Penn Caley and Lauren Sweet ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

this is the first & I adore their voices

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I have read the kindle book - I had the same reaction laughed in places.

it was ok. kinda sweet

some parts were confusing and seemed forced. for instance when carly's mom dies. didn't see the point in that . also, the takeover of Jaces moms company seemed hastily thrown together. almost like it was done to introduce new characters for sequal books.

Surprisingly good storyline

Aside from the female narrator, this story kept me listening while I completed odd jobs around the house. The beginning is a little too juvenile for the age group of the characters, but as the plot develops the story matures and becomes a decent love story. I enjoyed the twists and turns in the end. I could’ve done without the overwhelming lovey dovey poetry talk from Jace who is a supposed badass.

The male narrator was great, but I don’t feel the same about the female narrator. She was difficult to swallow. Thankfully, the storyline pulled me through.

Okay but frustrating

The heroine was extremely immature. I realize she was meant to be but I was expecting her to mature as the story progressed. Too many breakups and silly fights for my taste. It was like two twelve year olds arguing. Will give the next book a shot but hopefully it will be about two adults.

Virgin teen romance

Chaste, innocent, naive virgin plays with bad boy.

Not my cup of tea. I was bored. DNF.

Okay - it passed the time

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I might recommend the book, but not necessarily the audio version. I think the narration spoiled it for me and made the book sound disjointed.

Would you be willing to try another book from MJ Fields? Why or why not?

I've read other books by MJ Fields and enjoyed them, which makes me think it was the narrator that spoiled it for me.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Lauren Sweet and Penn Caley ?

Andi Arndt and Sebastian York

If this book were a film would you go see it?

The premise of the story would entice me, yes

Any additional comments?

Story seemed disjointed and seemed to jump quickly. It wasn't the best story I've ever read/listened to, but it passed the time. Not as good as the Rockers of Steel books by MJ Fields
