Sirens in the recording, flapping of papers

One of the readers, the one they give you a taste of listening to, of course, is quite good, but she doesn't even read most of the books, there's an American reader who does a tolerable British accent but reverts to American accent during non-speech parts of the reading, and is trying so hard to maintain the British accent during the speaking parts that she speaks very slowly, even when the speaker is supposed to be speaking quickly, or curtly, or having any other emotion rather than languor. It's disconcerting to have the accent changed up so often and not enjoyable, you can't be easy and get used to one way of talking before the other accent comes back.

However, the final book is Persuasion, my personal favourite, and I was so looking forward to it- is read by someone else entirely, another American, but she doesn't even try a British accent for the parts of speech, and she has an inability to pronounce British place names correctly that made me think she was saying 'Uppercrust' when she was saying 'uh-perrrr-cr's' instead of Uppercross. I would not have bought it if I had known is was so BAD. The sound quality is terrible, for an Audible book, I mean I have books on tape from the 90s that had better quality. There's hissing, which I can't stand, which the other books in the recording do not have, and grainy sound, AND THEN we get to an important part, the part where captain Wentworth's mindset is cracked and he begins his journey of self-destruction and then self-discovery, THERE ARE POLICE SIRENS IN THE RECORDING. POLICE. SIRENS. Imagine if you were trying to sleep and suddenly the book on tape had sirens and I don't know where you're from but if I hear sirens, it's serious. Then, not long later, we hear the sound of pages turning.

Terrible quality,
