Publisher's Summary

It was a mismatch made in heaven: innocent girl from the boonies moves in with tattooed, pierced, bad-boy engineer.

I came up with a bet, a plan to tutor her in math and coach her through her phobias. What I wasn't betting on was becoming addicted to her.

But I was living a double life on weekends, and once she found out about it, she'd be gone.

I had to protect myself, and that meant one thing: I couldn't fall in love.

Author's note: This is not an exact retelling of Jake Undone. While pivotal scenes from Jake Undone are retold from Jake's point of view, Jake Understood is its own story that includes all-new material from both the past and present time where Jake Undone left off.

Wish I’d known

The story was overall good but there was so much repetitious storyline from Jake Undone that I found myself bored. It had its high points but not enough to be a “stand alone” book.

Loved this!

I already loved Jake Undone and now I adore this book from Jake's perspective too! The story is complex enough to draw you right in and keep you hanging on the words. Excellent narration also makes this an audiobook worth listening to.

This book is a must read.

Jake is such a perfect man, I know nobody’s perfect but since Jake is fictional to me he’s perfect. His heart is pure, he loves big and unconditionally, he aims to do right by the ones he loves. I’m completely in love with this book, Jake and Nina will forever be one of my favorites. Their story is different, so unique but memorable and enjoyable.

So so

If there is a formula for romance books, it’s evident here. The performance of Jake made him sound angry. The sex scenes were too much. The vulgar language. There was no chemistry. Jake wasn’t a very likable character. I feel like I wasted my money.

3.5 stars - loved the Mr. Bat rhymes again!

Jake and Nina’s story continued here. I liked the flashback method used to fill in what was going with Jake as he fell in love with Nina when they were roommates. The supporting characters from book 1 (Skylar, Mitch, Allison, Cedric) show up for a party Jake wanted to throw Nina. But Nina disappeared for a breather before Jake got home from an unavoidable overnight trip.

Nina's method for dealing with her issue with Jake’s past was risky, but it gave her the closure she needed to finally accept Jake’s burden. Jake and Nina both came to the conclusion that they didn’t start living until they met each other. We got a crazy trapped in the elevator scene that I wouldn’t wish on anyone before their happily ever after resumed.

Audiobook narrators Felicity Munroe and Brian Pallino were great again. We got a lot of new material about the past events that made Jake that much worthier of sympathy for his strength in the unique situation he couldn’t walk away from ever. Most of all, I loved Jake’s sense of humor.

Nina’s bestie gets her own novel in My Skylar which I already own in both e-book and audiobook formats. I need a breather though before I can return to this world, but eventually I plan to read it.
