Critic Reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Amazed

I found it very helpful and clear with the translation. I also noticed that I would choke up when asked to repeat the phrase back. It's good practice and helpful learning tips!

great teaching style makes a difference

The narrator's voice was pleasant and easy to understand as were the voices the listener is to repeat. The break down of sounds in each word help tremendously. I also liked how the phases are reviewed intermittently to help refresh items already covered to solidify the learning. I am looking forward to the rest of the Units I have already purchased.

slow

I definitely learned the lesson but it was too slow and that made it boring. It did not inspire me to learn more.

Finally! I'm going to learn a language!

Would you consider the audio edition of Italian Phase 1, Unit 01 to be better than the print version?

Not sure that there is such a thing, but I definitely thing learning this way is the only way I can learn a language. The textbook method, for me, just is not as practical as learning this way. After all, as children we learn to speak before we learn to write!

Who was your favorite character and why?

n/a

Which scene was your favorite?

n/a

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely, I was learning the language so fast but I made myself go back and practice a few times to actually grasp it!

Any additional comments?

Seriously recommend the audio book way of learning language, and this one is excellent! I'm buying the full line for Italian! So excited. I've always wanted to learn a language and now, I know I'm going to!!!

Excellent way to learn a little Italian

I used the first 5 Pimsleur units before I was due to go for a long weekend to Venice. I'm definitley not a "natural linguist" (I was far from brilliant at French at school, even though I studied it for 6 years up to GCSE), however, this felt like a really easy way to learn a bit of conversational Italian for a short trip. If I had one ciriticism, it is that I really needed to learn how to read some things, just to order from a menu or read a street sign, and buying this off audible doesn't give you that option, even though, doing a bit of online research, I believe that these ought to come with a vocab booklet (which could easily have been included in the other units' downloads, e.g. as a pdf, I would suggest) though I shouldn't really add that as a criticism of this particular unit, since it is free! This free unit is just meant as a "hook" to reel you into buying more units, but don't let that put you off downloading it and then buying other Pimsleur units, they are really very good!

Unfortunately, I was too ill to go to Venice and had to cancel the trip, so I can't comment on how good it is in reality, but I certainly felt that I was making rapid progress and that I could get by on a basic level after the first 5 units!

Good but a little short. Only covers one sentence

It only covers one sentence. Excuses me, do you speak Italian and do you understand English. Useful but short
