So bad it’s good

This is what happens when an American visits Australia once, for a week, and decides to base a book there.
The only thing more amazing than the lack of local knowledge (hint, eucalyptus aren’t deciduous, and you’d never hear a local talk about the ‘woods’) is the poor, sweetly enthusiastic narrator’s attempts at Australian and English accents.
Pro-tip: a pickup truck is known as a ute, as in utility.
Not pronounced ‘Oot’.
That was the point I laughed out loud in public and knew I had to see this sweet disaster through.
I imagine the book was written by someone who lives in his mum’s basement and who never played contact sports, let alone served in any capacity, as his knowledge of concussion and physical injury, while enthusiastic, was so unrealistic as to be funny and about as good as his local knowledge.
On the upside, it has amused me for several days, and has me yelling ‘OOT!’ every time I see a Hilux.

Bad South African accent doesn’t sound like an Australian

For an Australian author and Australian setting I was hoping for more authenticity. Pine trees vs eucalyptus? But it was really the bad South African accent of the narrator supposedly depicting the Australian accent that had me cringing!

Tried too hard.

Narrator's effort for the authentic accent failed. By the end, my tolerance wore thin.
Storyline appeared to be attempting a mix of Tom Clacy and Lee Child hardcore military characters . Sadly failing due to the setting of such Storyline to be in an Australian remote rural setting.

Stereotypical and Inacurate

While the story is passably entertaining and paced fairly well, it's predictable, stereotypical and frustrating at times with it's inaccuracies. Pine trees aren't part of the natural Aussie landscape, but were repeatedly referred to as the trees of the forest (bush). The author has obviously never seen a map of or visited any small Australian towns. Not understanding bikie gangs in OZ was also frustrating. Other than that, an easy book with little thinking required, and the narrator was adept at the American accent. A different narrator for the Aussie accents would be a great improvement to the book.

Entertaining in a silly way

I quite liked the story even with the constant inaccuracies regarding Australia, small towns, police forces etc… I put that down to the author being from another country & not bothering to do any research about where the story is set.
I had to Google him when he inferred Aussie forests are deciduous to see where he’s from & laughed at discovering he lives in Melbourne & bangs out a book every 3 months.
I guess he doesn’t have time to research anything or go for a drive to a small town to know how life works.
Having said that he is reportedly making a great living doing this so good on him!!
I will continue to read all his books that are free as I live in a small Aussie country town & can’t afford to buy books ;)

Good read

Narrator kept referring to Kitchener as him/himself. She’s a female. Apart from that a good listen 🤣🤣

The author needs to research Australia more

The post offices in Australia are all Australia Post. The police cars in each state of Australia all have the state logo not different regions. Australians and New Zealanders have different accents. We also have different names for many things to Americans. It would pay for a vocal expert to learn the difference. Not a bad story.

An okay but not epic read

A good introduction into the background of Jason King. While it doesn’t reach the heights of the king and slater series it’s worth a listen if you’re a fan of the newer books - especially if included in the audible plus catalogue

A very basic Jack Reacher.

This was like a B grade action film.
Quite unrealistic, far fetched, typical shoot em up!
The narrator was excellent.
