Irrungen, Wirrungen ist ein Roman von Theodor Fontane, der zunächst im Jahr 1887 in der Vossischen Zeitung und anschließend 1888 in Buchform erschien. Er behandelt die nicht standesgemäße Liebe zwischen dem Baron und Offizier Botho von Rienäcker und der kleinbürgerlichen Schneidermamsell Magdalene (Lene). Beide können und wollen ihre Standesgrenzen nicht überwinden und heiraten schließlich einen anderen Partner, mit dem sie ein mäßig glückliches Leben bestreiten, denn: „Die Sitte gilt und muss gelten, aber dass sie’s muss, ist mitunter hart.“
