About this listen

Honor and betrayal fuel a caste-shattering revolution in the action-packed new novel from the number one New York Times best-selling author of the Red Rising Trilogy.

Ten years after the events of Morning Star, Darrow and the Rising are battling the remaining Gold loyalist forces and are closer than ever to abolishing the color-coded caste system of Society for good. But new foes will emerge from the shadows to threaten the imperfect victory Darrow and his friends have earned. Pierce Brown expands the size and scope of his impressive Red Rising universe with new characters, enemies, and conflicts among the stars.

I was doubtful whether this one would be worth it having read some negative reviews. but this book is a natural continuation of the momentum of the first three books. it opens more complexity and nuance in the characters, their motivations and morality; the first three books were 'flatter' in a way, and they had this naive Batman or James Bond feel to them at times (which of course my inner adolescent loves); but the multiple story lines of this fourth book bring dimensionality to the chronicle. worth a read if you were sucked into the first three.

ps. don't expect much depth in social or political commentary. I have wanted to see the wisdom in what the author says about human nature, civilisation, culture etc. but it still feels pretty hollow sometimes. there are a few gems of insight, but it's good to bear in mind that we are reading the words of a white modern man who imports a whole bunch of assumptions from his (our) colonised mind

Another banger from Pierce! I see some people complaining about the narrators but I loved them, absolutely awesome experience, would highly recommend.

Fantastic

A good addition to the series, the narration was really good in this one.

Good addition to the series

Over all very good. I found the Lyria section a bit tedious, it could be because of the reader more than the story.

Story

Good story but the different narrators was jarring. It got better after a while but always felt like Lysander was rushed.

Not as good as the first three

Sound level is often too quiet. Other narrators were good, but I much preferred when just Tim Gerard Reynolds narrated as on the first three. Some very interesting new characters and story arc. Very enjoyable but not quite to the standard of the first three.

Good story but not quite up to the standard of the first three.

Do not let other comments about different narrators hold you back from this book. The 4 different characters, stories, converge beautifully. I think it is also the best way for the author to continue after 3 powerful novels. There is lots going on in the worlds now and it is fitting to see 'hear' from alternate views. Listen my goodman, listen now, it gory damn prime.

An elegant dance of dialogue n detail, just prime.

I was a bit wary of where or how the story would progress after the finale of the original trilogy. However, this is a very enjoyable read and definitely worth the credit. My only complaint is that the narrator for Lysanda seems to rush through his lines rather than spending it on inflection and pause. The other three narrators did brilliantly, with a special mention to Lyria's performer.

A worthy continuation

The narrator for Lisander was rather lifeless and disinterested - otherwise, it was fantastic as always!

Quality as always

Fantastic first 3 books. Excellent narration even on the secondly time listening to all 3.

I am seriously disappointed with the poor narration (Lysander narrator) for the 4th book. Way too fast, passionless and weak.

Bad narration
