About this listen

This book contains strong language, and adult themes that may not be suitable for everyone.

Jenny sits in the same seat on the same train every week, seeing familiar faces come and go.

Until a chance encounter shatters her world.

Sixteen years ago, Jenny survived a traumatic ordeal that left her best friend, Susie, missing and presumed dead. The world has its theories about what happened to Susie Patterson, and one of those theories points the finger at Jenny.

Now she lives a quiet life, volunteering at a crisis helpline while trying to deal with her own anxiety and the true crime fans obsessed with finding her missing friend. Then, on the way to her usual shift, Jenny is certain she sees Susie sitting in coach D.

But will anyone believe her?

Seeing Susie plunges Jenny back into a nightmare of forgotten memories and haunting fears. As the past claws its way into her present, she must unravel the truth about what happened sixteen years ago.

But the deeper she digs, the more she realises that some secrets are better left buried.

I wasn’t really sure about listening to this book but thought I would give it a go. It drew me in from the beginning and I couldn’t wait to listen to it each day . Beautifully narrated

Captivating

This could have been a good book but 63 chapters in I finally gave up. I wanted to persist to the end but just stopped even caring where it was going or how it ended. I feel like everything in those 63 chapters could have been told in 10 and the narration finally annoyed me too much to continue. And yes the “says” did grate on me too….

Couldn’t finish the last 20 chapters…

I wish people would read the full story before a review. This was captivating from beginning to end. An unusual way of projecting the story. Very clever. A great listen.

Wow 🤩

I’m glad I didn’t use a credit on this book but if I had, I would have returned it.
Our main protagonist is really irritating. Initially I thought it was just the narrator, who actually is irritating, but then I realised that if she said “but she’s my BEST FRIEND” one more time, I’d scream.
Sorry, I really like Sarah Denzil’s work but this one wasn’t for me.

Not for me

Great story apart from the annoying narrator's pronunciation. I had to try and switch off. I know it was her N English accent, but still annoying.

I didn't like the narrator....phonetically pronouncing 'says' instead of sic 'sezz'

A fascinating tale about past lives and past regrets and the way we shape ourselves based on those events. An honest approach to life's hardships, struggles and unfairness when viewed without providence or path.
The story forces us the reader to question what we might do if limitless power and money falls into our lap? Would we remain true to our moral integrity or would we compromise?

Makes me wished I inherited a cult

The idea for the narrative was good but there is a lot of repeating throughout the story.
