Publisher's Summary

They are coming. The countdown has begun.

First visible only as blips on a telescope image, the discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter's orbit immediately sets humanity on edge. NASA doesn't even bother to deny the alien ships' existence. The popular Astral space app (broadcasting from the far side of the moon and accessible by anyone with Internet) has already shown the populace what is coming. So the news has turned from evasion to triage, urging calm and offering the few facts they have:

The objects are enormous, perfectly round spheres numbering in the dozens, maybe hundreds. They are on an approach vector for Earth. And they will arrive in six days.

Not what you'd expect

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you like a road trip story, then I guess this is right up your street

Has Invasion put you off other books in this genre?

No, I even went further to read the next and found that for me I had reached the end of the road. A bunker story was not what I was expecting

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Does a great job of what I thought was poor material

What character would you cut from Invasion?

All the women characters! They were stereotypes of the worse kind, I found myself loathing their contribution to the story, having said that, I didn't have a single character that I could empathise with, even the primary character was painful.

Any additional comments?

If your into a science fiction story then this will disappoint, book one is a road trip story with no idea of what or who is invading, book two is a bunker story where find out nothing about the aliens, who they are where they are from, what they want. After book two I gave up!

a waste of Ray

too many stupid people surrounding 1 half decent character. the micro issues overwhelmed the story as a whole

lots of action, fun listen

not sure I would like many of the characters IRL but Ray Porter's performance brings them to life and infuses them with more sympathetic personalities. lots of good action in their fight for survival. started the next book immediately.

To much personal drama

Disappointing -- really good bones of a story - but too bogged down in relationships chatter and the main character is meant to be a genius prepper and makes so many simple cringe mistakes .... the performance was great .... will not be getting the sequel

Coincidentally relevant for today

Armageddon for Moscow - how accurately relevant for today - Russias stupidity in going to a losing war with Ukraine in 2022-2023 and ending in their annihilation.

Not for me.

Too slow for my taste.

This could perhaps be called a “cheap drama”, with some Alien Invasion thing in the background. Not to me, true Science Fiction as the genre I enjoy.

Confronting topics - not uncommon in Science Fiction. This did not however do that. The elements of sexuality were trashy, predictable, unimaginative and caused “eeew, cringe”.

Ray couldn’t save this for me.

Perhaps someone else’s cup of tea.

Interesting and disturbing

Every family needs a Meyer( perhaps with a better moral code) if they have a chance to survive. His biggest failure was not training his kids for what he knew was coming. You don’t invest that type of money without having a serious conviction that it will be needed and soon. Seems strange a guy as squared away as that would neglect to arm his kids with as much knowledge as possible. Lila seems to have a sad ability to make mostly wrong decisions that put her family and herself in danger. The writers seemed to push the idea that Heather was a great mother with absolutely nothing to support it. She is still sleeping with her ex, and others, has given up her children in favour of her career and any drug going seems to be her crutch of choice. And she’s a gutter comedian who has brought no other discernible skill to the survival bunker table. Interesting to see where this story leads though there are a couple of characters they could lose along the way.

Not for everyone...

Some may enjoy but unfortunately, I found way too much pointless detail to be interesting
