お月見は、旧暦の8月15日（2017年は10月4日）と、9月13日（2017年は11月1日）に満月を観賞する行事。
8月15日の月は「中秋の名月」と呼ばれ、この日の夜は「十五夜」、9月13日の夜は「十三夜」と呼ばれます。
お月見は平安時代に中国から伝わり、宮中行事として定着しました。平安貴族たちは、月を見ながら詩や音楽などを楽しんだのです。
お月見の風習が一般庶民に広まったのは、江戸時代。単に月を眺めるだけでなく、豊作を願い、収穫を感謝する意味を込めて、月見だんごや餅、ススキなどを供えるようになり、現在に至ります。
日本では、十五夜には月にすむうさぎが餅つきをするという言い伝えがあります。©2017 KODANSHA
