Now you see her....

Still haunted by memories of his last case, in which an innocent woman was accidentally killed, Bow Street Runner John Pickett welcomes the challenge of a new assignment in the West Country. Unfortunately, this time he’ll have to leave his beloved wife, Julia, behind, as he’ll be traveling in company with Harry Carson, a member of the Foot Patrol whose swaggering self-confidence is an uneasy fit with Pickett’s reserve.

Now you don't....

After three days of trying without success to make contact with the man who sent for him, Pickett receives word from Bow Street that Julia has been abducted. Suddenly his current case takes on much more ominous implications. And if the man behind it all is the one Pickett fears it is, then Julia is in mortal danger....

Wonderful

The morality and honesty wrought in each story and especially this one- should be required reading by every child before they reach teenage years. The twists and friendships made in this story are Ms. Cobb’s best to date.

Good read!

mystery, rescue, law-enforcement, suspense, England, Ireland, historical-fiction, historical-research Instead of an assignment that might bring him some praise, John has been lured away from London so that a villain due to be hanged has escaped and kidnapped John's beloved wife. John is distraught but assembles the help he needs to locate her even as she does everything she can to leave clues for him. Lots of suspense, angst, reminders of the different reactions law enforcement officers have when dealing with deeds against their own family rather than the general public. Another winner! Joel Froomkin is the narrator par excellence who makes everything he narrates even better.

Love this series

Book 9 in the John Pickett Mystery series and they just keep making we want to read more. I love the characters in this series. Sheri Cobb South does a wonderful job of developing the characters and their lives. Narrator Joel L. Froomkin is also amazing with his wonderful narration of this series. I find this series so comforting to listen to. After a difficult holiday season this was a wonderful gift to just relax with a great read. I was gifted this audiobook with the with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.

Outstanding Narration, Great Characters

I have read or listened to all the stories in the John Pickett series. I have enjoyed them all. I like John’s integrity and humility, and especially the strong and smart lead female character, Julia. The relationship between them builds in this book. This was a very good story, although I missed the interaction between them because (without too much of a spoiler), this story has them apart for much of the book. I particularly liked the building relationship with Julia’s highly competent and sympathetic brother-in-law and I hope we see more of him in the future. Joel Froomkin has become one of my favorite narrators - and I listen to a lot of audiobooks. His accents are excellent, with a keen understanding of not only regional differences, but more subtle class distinctions. He is also one of the few narrators who moves effortlessly between male and female characters. I think I’ve mentioned in previous reviews that Julia sounds just like Samantha Bond is narrating her part, so that’s a big plus for me, because Samantha Bond reliably brings a whipsmart approach to all her characters, this is a perfect fit for Julia. Kudos to Mr. Froomkin for his excellent narration, and thanks to whoever selected him for this series. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fantastic Series & Narrator!

Another great Pickett mystery! It's an Old English style mystery with humor and enough twists and turns to keep you fully engaged. The narrator is fantastic, he does amazing with all the voices (even the female ones), accents and does a great job with the acting and narration. It a very clean book series free of bad language, sex, and not overly graphic in the description of murders or violence. I love these books! —I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Awesome Mystery and overall Storytelling

(Yes! I'm gushing!) Author Sheri Cobb South and audiobook performer, Joel Froomkin are amazing together! Froomkin has captured the essence of Cobb South's writing. The result is always a wonderful listening experience. Bravo! In this mystery, an adversary from John's past is lurking in the shadows. What kind of havoc is in store for the bowstreet runner? Julia is already 4 mos. with child. She and John are still in the honeymoon stage trying to figure each other out. I love the mystery. I love the romance between John and Julia. And, of course, the journey Cobb has woven through their lives. (swoon) I was given a free copy of this audiobook. My review is as unbiased as I can be. The truth is, I love this author's writing and the audiobook productions are always top notch! Mature content: none (no sex, language or violence)

🌟🌟🌟🌟

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I've been following the John Pickett Mysteries ever since discovering 'In Milady's Chamber' here on Audible and have found this latest addition, 'Into Thin Eire', to be quite entertaining and a worthy addition to the series. Enjoyable as it is though, there isn't much mystery to be had, however, as there doesn't seem to have been any doubt as to the identity or motives of the villain, and the kidnapping/revenge plot is perhaps a little too simple for a book in this genre - hence the 4 star rating instead of a perfect five. Still, this was a pleasure to read and I look forward to hearing more of the Picketts in the future.

Another great addition to the series

Another great addition to the series with mystery and adventure. The characters are personable and John is still haunted by the events of the previous book, and he keeps this from Julia. This book also keeps him and Julia apart for much of it. It may help to have read the previous book to understand John's reactions. There's a definite sense of the period in the writing, speech, and descriptions. A fun easy read made all the better by the engaging and excellent narration.

Begorrah!

Knowing a novel by a non-Irish author is set in Ireland always makes me nervous and I’m afraid that on the Darby O’Gill scale this one goes high. It’s a shame because this whole series is light and fun so light, fun and a bit cringey doesn’t work well.

Great series

I really love the John Pickett mysteries. Into Thin Éire was equally as good as the books that came before. I was very interested to read this one as Mr. Pickett was going to Ireland! I wanted to see how the Irish element of the story was going to be developed and how the narrator was going to handle the accents. I good job was done all round. The mystery and suspense was very good and I'm looking forward to the next book coming out I voluntarily reviewed an advance reading audio.
