Publisher's Summary

Nothing destroys trust like sexual betrayal. Beyond broken vows, a woman who discovers that her husband has been viewing pornography or having an affair must deal with devastating blows to her self-image and self-worth. She must grapple with the fact that the man she thought she knew has lied and deceived her. She may even bear the brunt of shame and judgment when the people around her find out.

Drawing from her experience both as a marriage and family therapist and a woman who personally experienced the devastation of sexual betrayal, Dr. Sheri Keffer walks women impacted by betrayal through the pain and toward recovery. She explains how the trauma of betrayal affects our minds, bodies, spirits, and sexuality. She offers practical tools for dealing with emotional triggers and helps women understand the realities of sexual addiction. And she shows women how to practice self-care, develop healthy boundaries, protect themselves from abuse or manipulation, and find freedom from the burden of shame and guilt.

Great. But too Female Centric

I can easily replace the word woman with a man in my brain. But I am a man who has gone through traumatic betrayal are the magnitude that I could never have imagined. Nothing I’ve ever heard of was at the level that was perpetrated upon me by a very disturbed person. An actress who she herself was abused and tormented throughout her life primarily through religion.
I would love this and other books to really interchange the genders. Tell stories of experiences of both men and women.

It is a misnomer that women are affected more than men. I would venture to say that the trauma inflicted by those who are unbalanced have equally affected both (all) genders. Please look into neurofeedback, it saved my life. G

Great insight for healing after adultery

Excellent book for help when no one understands. This will help them understand your pain and the long road to healing. So many people want to rush you thru grief and this type is a death to what was. Like suicide or miscarriages it is taboo to talk about. So this book was a game changer for me. I felt so understood by the author and while my marriage didn’t make it at least I knew I wasn’t crazy or taking too long to move forward.

Good resource for spouse of porn addict

This was one of the best books on porn addiction and how it affects their spouse. It provides real applicable advice on how to work through the pain of sexual betrayal. She calls it like it is. Names the different types of manipulation, deceit, and abuse that happens in most marriages that include porn use. Includes the authors Christian perspective but does not make it the sole focus as many other books out there do. Ive read and listened to around 50 or so books on the topic. This one has been most helpful, with real life methods to combat the helplessness and desperation I have been enveloped in for the last 18 years of my life and marriage.

Sex Addiction is a matter of life & death!

Dr. Sheri is incredibly knowledgeable about the seriousness of this godforsaken disease. She is real & a wealth of information. I wished I had her as my counselor when I became aware my husband is a sex addict. I thought it was his problem not mine. How wrong I was. It's your responsibility to take care of yourself. Understand you have sufferred trauma. If untreated, this will get worse for the entire family.

Everyone Needs To Read This Book!

Intimate Deception nailed down the “Final Answers” to many questions for me. Experiencing betrayal in my own life as well as watching the lives of people who crossed my path who experienced it, caused me to doubt myself as a woman, a woman if God, and as a human being. This book put the puzzle pieces of my life together, helping to validate my own evaluation of what I have been through.

Thankful, thankful, thankful to Dr. Sheri Keffer for her transparency, love, and nurturing heart that birthed this book into life for others.

I could write a book of thanks to you, Dr. Keffer, and I will be forever grateful to New Life Ministries where you talked about your book! I have passed it on to a number of women who have been through intimacy betrayal. And I am full of Thanksgiving for the wonderful Lord we love and serve.

My focus and mission is to see women free to be in Christ.

Great read for healing!

Something that held me back from this book in the beginning was the talk of self care and aligning that with scripture, however at the end she explains self care as taking care of the necessities like showering, getting dressed taking care of your body. Not indulging yourself like the media defines self care.

Best Book for Intimate Deception/Betrayal Trauma!

I’ve read this book three full times now and refer back to it all the time. It was such a light in the middle of so much darkness. It was exactly what I needed to “sort through the rubble.” Sheri is such a gem. I’m so thankful for her vulnerability. A true righteous oak (Isaiah 61:3).
