Fugitive. Criminal. Robot.
A sci-fi adventure for young listeners, Interview with the Robot introduces a unique heroine who seeks the truth about herself.
Eve looks like an ordinary 12-year-old girl, but there’s nothing ordinary about her. She has no last name. No parents or guardian. She’s on the run from a dangerous and secretive organization that will stop at nothing to track her down.
And most astonishing of all: she’s a robot, a product of Eden Laboratories. When Eve discovers the truth, she realizes everything she thought she knew about herself is a lie. Eve manages to escape, fleeing the lab, the only home she’s ever known.
After being arrested for shoplifting, Eve is interviewed by Petra Amis from Child Welfare Services. Her incredible story unfolds during the interrogation, with flashbacks to her life inside Eden Laboratories, which has a dark secret. Listeners follow Eve from her first moment of consciousness to her evolution as a nearly-human companion to Emory, the son of the founder of Eden Laboratories.
Exploring a range of topics that drive our society and our lives—topics such as artificial intelligence and human nature - Interview with the Robot is a story told by a startlingly original protagonist, a story that explores the vast potential of technology and the deep complexities of humanity.

Good Short Listen
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I spent the first 30 minutes trying to decide if it was written for an adolescent reader/listener. I am a tech guy, so it held my interest past the opening. Then a few unexpected twists were thrown in which made me what to know what happened next. It’s not an “I can’t go to sleep without knowing what’s next” kind of book. But I also didn’t feel like I wasted my time listening. Hope this review helps you decide.

I loved it!!
I'm an old man in my 77th year, but my grandkids will tell you I'm in my second childhood. Approximately 12 years in! That must be why I loved this story so much. I loved Lee Bacon's marvelous story and the fantastic narration of the seven narrators. So whether you are young or just young at heart like me, you need to get this audio book!

Plot holes, but decent story, great performance
There were a lot of small plot holes and details for such a short story. They weren't so bad that they ruined the story, but it definitely took away from it for me. On the other hand, the performances were great.

Brilliant
This book was one of those Audible Originals that I picked up on the cover alone. I didn’t care that it was a middle-grade or YA book. I didn’t care that it was under 4 hours. I saw the cover and knew I needed to read it. Boy was I glad that my instincts were right. The fact that the story was being told to someone who talks and understand children on a different level really took this story up a notch with me. I honestly can’t tell a better way for this interesting and unique story to have been told. But the flashbacks while Eve was retelling her history was brilliant and allowed for Petra to bring her back out of the moment and ask her questions. The questions were interesting and sometimes they were probing while others were just to get clarification. The entire story is told as more of a dramatization and a performance than your typical audiobook and I couldn’t think of a better book for it to happen to. When there needed to be robot/mechanical noises in the background, instead of imagining them they were there. The ambiance and warmth that this added to the excellent storytelling really took this book to another level. Granted the writing wasn’t directed at me, it was still great. Bacon was able to write a story that has a ton of emotion in it. A story that kids and adults alike can understand. One that resonated with me and will stick with me for a while. There were so many twists and turns that all of the unexpected events weren’t even surprsing me anymore (the moment itself didn’t surprise me – the actual reveal always did). At one point I think I may have actually exhaled in shock at one of the reveals. I am really glad that I picked this one up and I would have paid for it had it not been one of the free books with the Audible subscription.

No, it's not another Blade Runner
This was a surprisingly entertaining take on an oft-visited theme, and I give it a four star (like") imstead of a 5 star ("like a LOT") only because I'm a more experienced (jaded?) near 50 year old who couldn't quite buy into part of what made the story's happy ending. I think even 20 years ago I would have given it a 5. The story is captivating, and I was happy to discover that my two main concerns about trying this book, that the interview format would be too dry or that the themes surrounding humanlike robots that so many books and movies have already explored would make the story too "old hat" for me, did not turn out to be issues. The problem I foresaw with the interview format is handled nicely by dramatized flashbacks, and provides for an interesting ending that would have been impossible without it. And the story was just different enough that it DID entertain me all the way through. I hated every time I had to stop listening for a bit! I was only disappointed when I found that I couldn't let myself fully believe in the ending, no matter how much I wanted to. It just didn't fit with my life experiences and knowledge of computers. So no, it's not as dark and complex and more "believable" for a jaded older person as the original Blade Runner movie ( especially the cut that VHS the ending the director originally intended), but it's not meant to be. As a lighter take on similar themes meant for younger readers, I think it's a definite win.

Enjoyable listen
Quiet enjoyable, I was able to imagine some of the scenes in my head. I had to listen in at x1.50 speed, a bit too slow at natural speed, but that's just personal preference or may be I am just too used to speed listening.
