Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Humanity's last encounter with aliens saw 16.2 billion people killed in a war with the Merkiaari that had spanned decades. Two hundred years later, the Alliance is cautiously exploring beyond its borders again, but the survey corp is considered a mere gesture by some. General Burgton of the 501st Infantry Regiment believes a lack of expansion is leading the Alliance into stagnation. So when one small ship discovers a new alien race, it should be an easy decision to make contact, but what if the aliens are like the Merkiaari?

One of the best sci-fi's I've enjoyed!
I wanted to review each novel as I listened, but felt drawn into going straight to the next and then the next.
This series absolutely enraptured my creative enjoyment from book one all the way to here, and leaves me wishing that the next one comes out sooner rather than later.
It was so enjoyable that it made my work habits whilst listening easier than ever.
All of the different characters who carry the limelight in their own acts in the story are each unique from one another.
They all hark from very different cultural, military, and even species circumstances that make caring for their plights and perspectives interesting and fresh.
I love the description of the technologies used too. It's neither too simple nor too complicated. Each of the technologies is believable and explained simply enough to convey that and build a basic image of how it was built/functions. I feel an error of many sci-fi's is trying too hard to scientifically explain a fictional technology for the sake of the story and bogging the story down in over-the-top details that shake up your suspension of disbelief.
This story does not do that!
Fold Space drives are described incredibly simply, and I love that you essentially don't learn their presumably intricate workings and just know that they do in fact work with variations of power/speed from different vessel classes.
The sense of scale is also wonderful. This series really grasps the idea of how big the galaxy and space is, and the colonies are all so far apart in distance and time that each move feels important.
The only points that troubled me were the descriptions of the Shaan and the Merkiaari, physically I mean.
Over the various scenes with each of them I got the idea about what they looked like, but (unless I wasn't paying sufficient attention at the time) I didn't hear any comprehensively descriptive viewpoint on either of them to clearly paint a picture of them. In saying that, I do know how difficult it can be to accurately describe a creative image of a fictional being without actual images.
One reason why I absolutely love it when an author employs a graphic artist to depict some core elements; worlds, ships, weapons, creatures, in some viewable pages of their novel.
The only other point which I craved during the happening would have been more info/flashback of immediately following the first war about the political, social, and military circumstances that prevented Humanity from weeding out the Merkiaari.
Just from a simple perspective, the dangers of not seeking them out and eradicating them following the first war far outweigh the dangers of not - the series speaks for itself with this new war beginning. But I would like to understand the politics that brought all that to the state it is.
But the few points I didn't like are tiny compared to how much I love this series!
I am certain that once the series is complete, that I will listen to this several more time over the years.
And not to mention how amazing the narration was! Superb!
Rush the next ones out please!! :)

Series is taking a turn towards Young Adult
The series was always a little thin, but now it's taking a turn for the worse. The characters are not strong. There's little temptation to make any kind of emotional investment in them. I've listened to all the books in the series up to this one, but it's time to move on.

Review "Incursion "
“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”
Mikael Naramore has given us another great narration. Mark Cooper continues the saga of war torn humanity in fighting against an alien species. He sets up under stories that will pull fully into the plot in upcoming books. There still is character development taking place which seems to slow the action pace and keep the plot resolution just out of sight. More answers are coming, keep reading:-)

Excellent
This book, like those that came before, is jam packed with action and intrigue. The narration was excellent. There were plenty of heart pounding battles won and lost, ending in death or worse. There seemed to be more tear provoking moments in this book. It is definitely not an HEA.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audio book by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Do not buy this book! it will be a wasted credit
This series of books is never going to end. the author is trying to make this series drag on as long as possible. In this book the plot is not move forward at all and they literally spend half the book with a main characters walking around in a Tech Convention with made up TV stars.
I enjoyed the first three books and they seemed to move forward. the plot in the story I thought was interesting and that's why I've decided to continue. however, I will not purchase any more from the series. it would have been an amazing three or four book series, not the 50 it's going to be by the time they're done writing it!

Simply Great.
Any additional comments?
People giving this book a bad review obviously have no sense of story building, character developing and story progress, clearly these mongoloids have no true taste of immersing withing a greatly written story only to cry like a baby for not having more to listen to, I am one of those hungry babies.

Love and Hate
Would you consider the audio edition of Incursion to be better than the print version?
I only have the Audio Version
What did you like best about this story?
The characters and story line are done in great detail
What does Mikael Naramore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mikael is a great reader. I have enjoyed everything he's done that I have listened to.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Absolutely but we all know Hollywood would cut out so much of the details that it would be lacking, IMHO
Any additional comments?
This is a great series and I got so wrapped up while listening to the audio that I would be late for work because I just couldn't turn it off. I ended up feeling like a character in a Dickens novel........"Please sir, can I have more?" I for one can't wait for the next book to see where he takes the characters. I'd give it a 10 out of 10

Too damn short.
I don't really understand how Rendezvous with Rama "can get more done" in 9 hours then most SciFi authors can get done in 12 hours. This here book feels too short. I was really looking forward to "Incursion", but it feels truncated. It feels like just over half of a book. The Odyssey One series did the same thing with "Warrior King". It also kills off a bunch of major characters right at the end with far less pomp and circumstance than they deserve.

The best Cooper has written!
This may be the best book Mark Cooper has written (I "think" I've listened to everything that's available from Mr. Cooper here on Audible)... His writing skills have grown immensely since this series was started! This book is ultra-well researched, down to tiny details that many Non-Military, and/or Non-Engineering, folks may well miss, and I'm sure there are other details *I* missed from areas where I have no experience. Mr. Cooper doesn't 'beat you over the head with Details', he just tosses them into the story like a subtle seasoning. He obviously put a LOT of research into this book.
I LOVE watching authors grow! I said in a review of Book 1 that Mr. Cooper was only going to get better, and happily he's done exactly that! Can't wait for his next book!
Mikael Naramore's Narration is well timed, well read, well spoken, and just plain "well done"!
This is one of those rare teams that make 'the whole' better than the sum of it's parts!

Superb.
If you're thinking of listening to this then you must have either read the books or listened to them!
This is far better than the previous book. it presents new characters and completes the circle for other's.
The story arch expands and gives greast depth. it is a long book but when you finish this you simply want more, you need to know what happens to the characters.
A good story resd very well indeed.
well done.

Deeper into the Wars
See the reviews are complaining about the content, yes the book goes deeper into the politics and the emotional backgrounds and thoughts of the main characters as well as some new ones, however if you are going to create a worthwhile universe then you also have to have the background. The pace of the book is slower but I feel that it's more of a bridge between the start of a story and a move to a new chapter of the war. I enjoyed this level of detail and humanistion of the war amd what happens in the background after all it worked for the Honor Harrington universe and given time and hopefully lots more books then I feel that it's on the same road. Found the talents of Michael Naramore very appropriate to this type of book and shall also be looking at more of his work.
In summary some people may not find this ad enjoyable especially if it's just the battles you like but I think most will definitely stick with the slower pace and enjoy it just as much.
