Story
In a small town in Utah, people are contracting a horrific disease with alarming plague-like symptoms. The CDC quarantines the area but outbreaks are already being reported in China, Japan, and England. Evidence suggests this is not a new strain of superbug - but an act of war, an orchestrated deployment of unstoppable terror.... Special agent Jericho Quinn, hellbent on finding the sniper who attacked his family, steps into an even bigger, and deadlier, conspiracy: a secret cabal of elite assassins embedded throughout the globe.
Publisher's Summary
From the New York Times bestselling author comes a gritty, riveting tale of modern crime, featuring a female FBI agent embroiled in a Russian human trafficking case.
Chicago Special Agent Annie Marino examines the case of a dead young woman who possesses a tattoo Annie has come across before - that of bloody bear claws. Several deceased women with the tattoo have turned up over the past few years, all suspected of being involved in a vast human trafficking operation.
Annie’s neighborhood friend, Jason Ward, is a young writer engaged to be married into an upper-class family from a posh Chicago suburb. Jason believes his future brother-in-law, a war veteran, is definitely a bully - but does he also have ties to the Russian mob?
Yana Kravec, a woman from St. Petersburg, Russia, has been fraudulently lured into a trafficking scheme and thrown into a horrid and seemingly hopeless situation. She is, however, determined to fight back and escape her captors.
Annie’s investigation eventually uncovers a sordid plot of procuring slaves overseas and marketing them in the US. Her interests soon coincide with those of Jason and Yana, bringing the trio together to fight against a deadly network of criminals. As the separate lives of these characters collide, their paths ultimately converge in a night of terror and survival in a Michigan forest, where they become the prey of evil men who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets.

Dreams of America
I purchased due to enjoying Ms Dawe telling a tale. I am a loyal fan and have discovered many new authors as I buy her reads. Note: I do use 1.25x speed to match an author’s intent. Ms Dawe has a great way of interpreting what an author wants to convey. Her male voices are the best, and she can do all kinds of accents which enhances the story. You are right there in the action.
Check out this author’s other stories, and it tells you the quality of his writing. This story is a bit rough to take if you know nothing about human trafficking, which I did not. Well I can tell you, it was an eye opener but not in a horror way. Our hero is so sweet, you want a friend just like this one. Our heroine, is strong, focused and will not give up. This has a dark overlay from the subject matter, but not in a gory way, but it makes you want to see how determination wins for each of the 3 characters that are intertwined. Fast pace, not too intricate, fairly well edited and a good start to a series if author writes more of this good entertainment.
