Wolfgang Borchert (1921-1947) hatte zu Hamburg eine sehr innige Beziehung. Der als Antikriegsdichter bekannte Autor des Heimkehrerdramas "Draußen vor der Tür" (er starb einen Tag vor der Urauffürung) schrieb sowohl in Gedichten als auch in Prosatexten wahre Hymnen an seine Heimatstadt: Fühlbare Szenen von nasskalten Hafenvierteln, vom Teergeruch, von Mädchen und Vergnügen und vom Brummen und Tuten der großen Dampfer. In seiner kurzen Schaffensperiode hat Wolfgang Borchert das ganze Menschsein beschrieben und berichtet von Liebe, Sehnsucht, Borniertheit und Macht. Mutig, humorvoll, poetisch und verblüffend modern.
Die Vielfalt seines Werks bringen Maria Hartmann und Jens Wawrczeck zu Gehör, musikalisch unterstützt von Natalie Böttcher (Akkordeon) und Horst Huhn (Trompete). Mit dem Lied "Es war ein Mädchen und ein Matrose" im Samba-Rhythmus von Franz Grothe.
