The immersive deep dive into your immune system from the brains behind the most popular science channel on YouTube, KURZGESAGT - IN A NUTSHELL. Narrated by Steve Taylor, the unforgettable voice of Kurzgesagt videos.

You wake up and feel a tickle in your throat. Your head hurts. You're mildly annoyed as you get the kids ready for school and dress for work yourself. Meanwhile, an utterly epic war is being fought, just below your skin.
Each chapter delves deeply into an element of the immune system, including:
· Defences like antibodies and inflammation
· Threats like viruses, bacteria, allergies and cancer
· Why boosting your immune system is actually nonsense
· How parasites sneak their way past your body's defences
· How viruses - including the coronavirus - work
· What goes on in your wounds when you cut yourself

So what, exactly, IS your immune system? Second only to the human brain in its complexity, it is one of the oldest and most critical facets of life on Earth. Without it, you would die within days. Immune takes readers on a journey through the fortress of the human body and its defences. There is a constant battle of staggering scale raging within us, full of stories of invasion, strategy, defeat, and noble self-sacrifice. In fact, in the time you've been reading this, your immune system has probably identified and eradicated a cancer cell that started to grow in your body.

Immune turns one of the most intricate and confusing subjects - immunology - into a gripping adventure. Challenging what you know and think about your own body Immune is a vital and remarkably fun crash course in what is arguably, and increasingly, the most important system in the body.

Many millions are aware of how dramatically the delightful charm and humourous combination that Philipp Dettmer's writing with Steve Taylor's narration in short form educational videos have enriched our lives with knowledge. This audiobook is no exception to the sheer brilliance of this winning team. This is a vivid, humourous, and unforgettable tour of the second most complicated systems in the universe. Despite what the book has taught me, I firmly believe that I will never be immune to this audiobook's charms.

An undeniable 'must listen' by a winning team

I ordered this audible thinking it will be scientific. If you have done past year 12 medical sciences , it is impossible to listen to this high school facts. But we’ll written for the lay who doesn’t know anything about physiology.

For the non scientist

Absolutely enjoyable listen. Learned a lot about the immune system! Analogies were great to understand. It does get complicated later in the book and I had to re-listen to a few parts a few times, but its a huge amount of information... delivered by anyone else, it'd be a lot more difficult to understand.
