About this listen

Three fleets aim to wipe out a planet.

One team must raise the alarm...and time is running out.

As Moldark turns his attention to Capriana Prime, Magnus and his gladias attempt to convince the Republic’s leadership to raise the planetary defense shield. But this seemingly simple task turns out to be more difficult than anyone expected, placing the planet’s population in grave jeopardy.

Desperate to save the capital, Magnus and the Gladio Umbra fight to save the seat of galactic rule at all costs.

Azelon isn’t without her tricks, however, and provides new hardware for Magnus—the BATRIG mechanized battle armament system.

But as time runs out, Magnus is faced with the hardest choices of his life...and gambles will be made.

All for the greater good.

Includes a special note from the authors.

The Ruins of the Galaxy series is now performed by Christopher Ryan Grant, narrator of the bestselling sci-fi series Strange Company.

I've only managed a couple of hours in, but the critical change in the narration is just too. much. This is a "buyer beware" from a disgruntled fan. I fully blame myself for not reading some reviews and noting the change. The storyline may be fine, and I will try on 1.2x, but I won't be purchasing anything further in the series. Like some have also reviewed, I feel a touch let down by the change. My error, won't happen again.

Poor decision on the narration change

Struggled to adapt to new reader and the change in character voices (granted, RC Bray is a hard act to follow).
All the battle passages were too long and drawn out. I often found myself zoned out from the story until there was some actual dialogue between characters.
Having said that, overall I thought it was an OK instalment...

Just not the same...

Didn't check who was reading when I purchased, and just didn't enjoy the change from RCB. Really pushed to get about halfway through but just couldn't stand the new voice. Story seemed OK, but I guess this is where I leave this series as I don't like the change in voice.

Couldn't Finish It

Changing narrator was a terrible idea. The way it’s read is terrible and the different voices for the characters are poor compared to the last guy who narrated the last books
Sadly this was too much of a struggle to listen to and couldn’t finish it which is sad as I was such a huge fan of the series

Changing Narrator was a bad idea

Changing narrator after 5 books was a terrible idea. The character voices all changed. Imagine recasting a character on your favourite TV show after 45hrs of watching it, but not only one character but all of them!

Also I think there's something wrong with the recording. I had to listen to this at 1.2x speed for it to sound normal. Either that or again the narrator has ... a ... very ... slow ... narration... style.

In terms of the story, I can't believe the whole book was literally just one battle. I get that this is meant to be military fiction, but the battles are so very drawn out with every single action being detailed, instead of skipping ahead in the battles. So very little really actually happened here in terms of story or character development.

Hard to review the story without spoilers. But there were some very questionable story choices in terms of who Magnus kills.

I'll stick it out, but hopefully the next book isn't as slow with the reading or story.

Narrator change was terrible, and so drawn out
