About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

How can we be confident about making plans? How might we feel secure despite the future being unknown? How do we learn to feel at peace with the unexpected?

When we think about the future, it can be difficult to feel that we have any control. We aren't confident that we can take actions and make decisions that help determine what happens next. We want to feel prepared, hopeful and equipped and to face the future with optimism. Or, better yet, change the future. But how do we map out our lives when it feels impossible to predict what the world will be like next week, let alone next year?

Jane McGonigal, a renowned future forecaster, reveals that 'unimaginable' events aren't unimaginable before they happen. It is possible to see them coming, and it's a mindset that can be learned by engaging with tools, games and ideas that will allow you to dive into the future before you live it.

By learning to think the unthinkable and imagine the unimaginable, you can better plan for a future you'd like to see. And by seeing what's coming faster, you can adapt to new challenges, reduce anxiety and build hope and resilience.

The content of this book is wonderful... thought-provoking and interesting. The narration gave me sea sickness - the tone and timbre was distracting. My friend who referred the book to me said something similar... we both tried different speeds but we both had a hard time with it. When I played it to my boyfriend he said (within seconds) that it sounded like a really bad AI voice. Thinking of the narration as just really bad AI made listening to the book more tolerable.

Great content - narration was really awful

Great listen with lots to ponder. Very interactive with activities to undertake and thought experiments.
Thanks Jane for opening up the foresight I didn’t know was imaginable.

Required listening for future reference

Though the content may be excellent the robotic red read through was impossible to listen to just impossible. So sad you know I’m sure she has a lot to offer but I just refuse to listen to a robot read. It was disjointed to the extreme very hard to follow a line of thought given the type of reading procedure available too bad. She didn’t record it with a real person in a real time.

Robotic read – just horrible
