Publisher's Summary

Over the course of one night, two girls with two very different backgrounds must rely on each other to get through the violent race riot that has enveloped their city.

Lena has her killer style, her awesome boyfriend, and a plan. She knows she's going to make it big. Campbell, on the other hand, is just trying to keep her head down and get through the year at her new school.

When both girls attend the Friday-night football game, what neither expects is for everything to descend into sudden mass chaos. Chaos born from violence and hate. Chaos that unexpectedly throws them together.

They aren't friends. They hardly understand the other's point of view. But none of that matters when the city is up in flames, and they only have each other to rely on if they're going to survive the night.

Educational

This is a great book which would be best aimed at the teen market. Maybe good for high schoolers.

My heart is in my throat ..

Just finished this book and my heart is in my throat because at almost 71 ,white,male,gay-AND this story -well I can't articulate,I am not educated enough to say exactly what this book did for me and would do ,I believe for whoever reads it. It op[end the heart along with the mind. Its a story I wish ,without the bad stuff, was in I want. to know more about these two young women. They have college, life ahead. It could follow them for decades and side note! SHAME ON OUR education system and THE PEOPLE who decided that Black History. doesn't matter and would leave out "Rosewood,TULSA"!

Incredible

The ending was a little abrupt for my liking but it kept my attention so well that I finished it in 2 days!

Powerful story, two perspectives, same message

This story moves fast, and leaves you wishing for just a little bit more. The two main characters are real enough for you to easily share in their joys and pain, and their contrasting perspectives serve to highlight the same overall message.

Fantastic Book, a little disappointed with the end

Fantastic book! The only thing missing is how Lena and Campbell reacted when they saw each other again and how their friendship would develop.

Poignant

Thank you for writing such a poignant, engaging, and thought-provoking story. I saw Kimberly Jones interview with Trevor Noah where they talked about this book. Kimberly's impassioned analysis of the history of black people in America and the Black Lives Matter movement as seen on the John Oliver show and many other places on the internet was just what we all need to hear right now. Thank you for speaking truth to power. Black Lives Matter!

Could not stop listening

Excellent - I felt like I was there, and found myself staying up to 2am to listen two nights in a row to listen. Even after, both characters have got into my brain and my heart. Excellent writing and fantastic narration.

A smart and timely story

I’M NOT DYING WITH YOU TONIGHT is a great debut novel, with intimately written perspectives of these two really well-realised characters - and a really nuanced discussion about race through the eyes of two teenage girls. Obviously it’s particularly timely right now but it’s an emotional and thought-provoking story regardless.
