Nelle sue Lezioni di letteratura, a proposito della Strada di Swann, Nabokov dice che “per comprendere appieno il volume iniziale, dobbiamo prima accompagnare il narratore al ricevimento dell’ultimo,” dove si svolge il famoso bal de têtes in cui il Narratore rivede, dopo lungo tempo, gran parte dei personaggi che hanno popolato l’opera; si potrebbe dire che con quella visione nasce la Recherche.
E allora Il tempo ritrovato, improvvisamente, la illumina di senso o, dicono alcuni, l’adombra. Noi ormai sappiamo, e ce lo ha detto sempre Nabokov, che “Proust è un prisma, il cui unico obiettivo è di rifrangere, e rifrangendo di ricreare retrospettivamente un mondo”.
