I was bored, angry, tired, and sad. I felt all alone yet I had nothing to complain about. I had a good job, a husband who wasn't shagging his assistant, three children who apart from being the occasional a**holes were pretty good kids; a house, a dog, and everything else we are told as little girls we should aspire to. But inside, I was growing restless.

So so good

Editorial Reviews
Laura Clery carved a unique way to viral stardom: she made a name for herself not on YouTube or Instagram, but on Facebook. Since then, millions of fans have found themselves enamoured with her off-beat and ultra-honest style of comedy and now, you can hear more of her absurd musings in this delightful essay collection. Listeners have rated this book nearly five stars in every single category for a good reason — it’s impossible to get enough of her in-your-face, unabashed comedy.
But it’s not all for laughs: Clery gets real, delving into her past as a narcissistic cocaine addict with no money and no hope for the future. Narrating in her own unique voice, she shares how she overcame these struggles to become a vegan yogi, wife, writer, internet sensation and mother of some rather unfortunate-looking rescue animals...including a one-eyed pig.
Publisher's Summary
From YouTube star and Facebook Video sensation Laura Clery comes a collection of comedic essays in the vein of We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby and You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein.
Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug, and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills!
Now, in her first-ever audiobook, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next...to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career, and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable, and vulnerable self-described...Idiot.
With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humor, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original - and undeniably relatable - new voice.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!
I am so happy that I decided to get Laura’s autobiography ‘Idiot’ as an Audio Book as actually LISTENING to her story, it made it feel like she was in the room with me. I felt very privileged to listen to her brutal honesty. To hear of her amazing journey through the ranks of childhood to the successful life she has now. I now understand the ‘how and the why’s’ of alcoholism and drug addictions. OMG! I understand also how easy it would be to go back to that life. Laura and Stephen continue to help each other. What a beautiful love story.
I am so glad I’ve listened to this book.
It’s been INSIGHTFUL, at times quite SAD, of listening to her BRUTAL TRUTHS in her own life but also the many people who have been in her life, it tells of a love story and showing us it can be a constant battle at times too.
All in all I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK

Loved it
Absolutely loved this! Laura was an idiot! She knows this, we've all been idiots to some degree, not necessarily to this degree lol I love that she owns her stupidity and has learnt from it. She is open about it and tries to help others by opening up her life. She acknowledges that not everyone is as lucky as she but I feel that this is still an accomplishment as SHE got sober and continues to be! I love this book!

Unflinchingly Honest
Laura's brutal honesty with witty and amusing quips was both heart wrenching and relatable. Her frankness on the realness of how lost you can get without meaning to and the ugly realities of addiction while maintaining her humorous spirit made for a great listen! Especially as it was read by her. I found her journey amusing, inspiring and incredible. Even though it is about her life and biographical in nature it doesn't read like that. It's just this amazing storytelling and I would definitely recommend. 😊

Absolutely worth every penny, especially for HHS fans!
Laura is such a hilarious and beautiful soul, and beyond inspirational! I have been a huge fan of hers beginning with “Help Helen Smash” but didn’t know her backstory...what a roller coaster of challenges she has endured and overcome!!! Her story about her relationship with her family, trauma from abusive boyfriends, and long road of addiction to her transformed sobriety is so well written, and binge worthy. I listened straight through! Being able to listen to Laura tell her own story was priceless, I am so glad she chose to narrate it. Laura is just so witty and being able to hear her inflections, funny accents, comedic timing, as well as her occasional guest narrator was so special. If you are already a fan, there’s no way that you will not love Laura’s book!
If you aren’t a fan, go watch all of Laura’s amazing videos and then enjoy this truly well written and beautifully narrated audiobook.

Felt like an "idiot" for buying this book.
I average about one audible book a week or fifty a year. Although I listen to a wide variety of books many of the books I get are non-fiction and are inspiring stories about amazing people. This book is definitely not that. I got this based solely on the 4.9 ranking and I'm in utter disbelief that this is a true rating for this book. I'd never heard of this person before and knew nothing about her.
A half hour into the book I desperately wanted to pull the plug and stop listening, something I almost never do and rarely am compelled to do in the books I choose. I can only surmise that all these 5 star reviews are coming from others who are or were addicts and most likely her fans.
I've never watched or heard any of her comedy routines...nor do I ever care to. I found the juvenile use of the "f-word" in every sentence (often multiple times in the same sentence) to be repulsive. But her whole life prior to getting sober is pretty much repulsive. I kind of felt like I needed to shower after reading this. I didn't find one character in this book to be appealing or someone that I'd want to know.
Her reading it made it seem like the whole book was some kind of desperately exaggerated gutter comedy performance which had zero appeal to me. She does have a bit of talent doing character impersonations and accents and I'm glad for her that she seems to be on a better path than she was. Still, having spent money on this book, I feel like an "Idiot".
