Arthur Schnitzler wurde am 15.05.1862 in Wien geboren. Schon als Neunjähriger versuchte er seine ersten Dramen zu schreiben, studierte aber dennoch nach dem Abitur Medizin. Aber schon als sehr junger Mediziner (mit 24 Jahren), schrieb er für Zeitschriften.
Zwei Jahre später folgte dann sein erstes Bühnenmanuskript, 1893 die erste Uraufführung und 1895 das erste Buch, das den Namen "Sterben" trägt und bei dem Verlag "Fischer" in Berlin erschienen ist. Daraufhin verfaßte Arthur Schnitzler elf weitere Erzählungen, wobei die "Traumnovelle" als zehntes Werk im Jahre 1925 in mehreren Ausgaben in der "Dame", einer Berliner Zeitschrift, erschien. Arthur Schnitzler gilt als kultivierter, sensibler Schilderer der genußfreudigen Wiener Gesellschaft um die Jahrhundertwende.Er ist dem männlichen Besitzdenken verfallen.
